Sig P230 Police OverRun In .32acp - What A Cute Pistol

I know, I know. I saw one of these new in the box the other day. P230 in .32acp - blue finish, decocker, safety lever, and external hammer. Trigger is a little heavy, but that can be taken care of. The test target for this one was essentially one hole at 10 meters.

Reading some of the old posts it looks like this was a German police overrun. Date code for the German proofhouse is KH or '97.

Price is $360 + tax. I don't have a .32acp so I thought what the heck. They have it on hold for me.

Anyone out there have one of these overrun pistols? If so, how do you like it?

Looks like I will need to order some dies and supplies to load for it. Anyone reloading for this caliber? How about this particular pistol or the 232?

Thanks,
slick

I shot one of these 230 32cal police models last week. It was like shooting a cap pistol. Zero recoil! Pretty accurate but it jammed. As I was leaving the range another fellow with one which was recently purchased was complaining to the salesman that it was constantly jamming. I also received e-mail from a guy who wanted to get rid of his for $220 but said I did the best thing by turning it down because it was a jammo-matic. I'll check back with the guy that let me shoot his and see how its doing. He told me it was real dirty when I shot it and that it may jam but to just clear it and keep shooting. I wouldn't stake my life on this one.

I am curious as to what he was shooting in his jammomatic.

Warning flags always go off when I hear dirty pistol. It usually means the person doesn't take care of their firearms or know how to clean them.

I am buying it because I can.

I have a G29 for social work.

What does he do to intentionally jam the gun as stated in his post?

What ammo does/has he shot in it which creates the jammomatic syndrome?

I am not trying to be a s.a. at all. I always take these types of reports with an open mind to ascertain the conditions which they have occurred.

Again, don't take this the wrong way, but just because someone works at a range doesn't give me the detail I would need. I have been shooting for over 35 years and I learn more about our sport every day.

I also see that his post was edited on the 11th and the original was posted several months ago. Why would he edit his post so recently - like in the past day or so?

I have given you all the info on this pistol that I have. The only reason I mentioned my friends knowledge of handguns was because of your statement that it may have been someone who knew nothing about caring for firearms. I have nothing against Sig pistols, in fact I have 2 Sigs and will probably add a Sig 232 380 cal to my collection soon. I like Sigs! I was just passing on my experiences with the 32 cal special police model. Other people may have had completely different experiences so it's up to you. As far as the Dennis Carter post, why don't you just e-mail him and ask him yourself. He seems to be a real nice and honest gentleman with a love for firearms. I'm pretty sure he edited his post because he originally mentioned his 32cal as a p232 and not the correct model # 230. I had mentioned his mistake to him in an e-mail and he realized the error and I see that he refers to the correct model in his edited post. I have no more information or experiences with this pistol so question it if you like but I was only giving you the honest feedback that you requested in your original post. End of story!

Slickpuppy,

1. I corrected the earlier post to reflect P230 instead of P232. The gun comes with a P232 manual and P230 supplemental page. I goofed and didn't catch it until Alan wrote.

2. I never said the P230 is a "jammomatic." I said it's easy to jam. I can get it to jam quite consistently simply by taking a slightly weak-wristed shot. I'm left-handed which may have something to do with it. I don't know. Here's a related post when I discussed this with another firing line poster:
http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81019

3. I got it to jam with Fiocchi, Winchester, and handloads.

4. Redding makes 32 acp reloading dies. I use them in my Dillon RL550B. I recommend getting the tapered set, but they also make a set for a roll crimp.

The P230 is pretty accurate for it's size and all. But, I think the CZ 83 (for target) and Seecamp (for carry) are better 32 acp's for the money.

Thanks for the clarification Dennis. You lefties always jam those pistolas don't you? ;)

I went back in to look at the gun again and passed on it.

Did you ever go back a few days later and see warts on a gun? I noticed it was pretty scratched up. For a new gun I found that unacceptable. Why should I need to break out the OxphoBlue on a new gun?

The trigger was much better the second time around than when I checked it out the first time.

As for the Seecamps, no thanks. The CZ83, I have toyed with the idea of one in .32.

I know what you mean about the "warts." Mine picked up a few knicks right at the back of the frame, where it makes contact with the slide. They showed up the first time I shot it. They are pretty accurate and have a pretty good trigger pull.

Someone on another post mentioned that CZ USA no longer imports the .32 acp, just the .380. I recommend that you give them a call to find out for sure. I ordered one this past spring. It took about 3 months.

For the money, I think the CZ's are a pretty good buy. They're reliable, relatively accurate, have a lot features, a pretty good warranty, and a modest price.

I feel like an expert at limp-wristed shooting. With the first 45 compact I bought, I don't know how many different boxes of shells, adjusted loads, positions, gloves and vodoo I tried before it hit me that my $1800 gun wasn't defective (the shooter was). Now, it's just kind of a reliability test I do with each gun I purchase.

I need to go back to the Seecamps for just a minute. Around here, northern VA, they sell for about $600-$650. I found a dealer in CT that sold me one for $450. That's not much more than you're going to pay for a new CZ 83 if price is a consideration. Those Seecamps are very well made and reliable if it's a pocket pistol you're looking for.

Good luck with your decision.

Dennis,
Do you have an 83 in .32acp? If so, how many rounds do the mags hold?

As for the price, there is an importer I found who can get them in for around $260.00 USD + shipping.

Slickpuppy,
Yes, I have one. It comes with two 10 round magazines. I actually had it on order when I bought the P230. I paid $378. I'm sure I didn't get any discount on it from the dealer.
