Recently acquired a Sig P230 in 7.65B (.32ACP). Unlike earlier P230's and P232 it has a manual safety also a lanyard attachment under left grip. My friend also bought one. His slide is marked "Made in West Germany", mine just "Germany". Both are date marked with "KH", the SIG code for 1997.
Both came with P232 manuals with insert sheets printed and inserted to explain the manual safety. This pistol has not been ever catalogued by SIG as far as I can tell and the 7.65(32) caliber was not heretofore available in the USA. An article in a recent American Handgunner talks about a SIG P230 or 232 7.65 (.32) sale to the Japanese National Police. I heard another rumor that these pistols are from a cancelled European police order. Does anyone have the straight scoop on these? Again, note the 1997 slide date code "KH" even though one slide must have been fabricated before the Wall came down and the other more recently. Very interesting! Any idea how many were imported?
I am aware that the P230 was originally designed in 9Police/9Ultra and was available, in Europe in 9Ultra/9short(.380)/7.65B(.32 ACP)/ and .22LR. But none with manual safety or lanyard attachment. This could be an instant "collectible" if numbers imported are small, as I suspect.
