Sig P226 LDC vs CZ Shadow 2

Hey guys, I believe a similar question like this may have been asked before but perhaps not with these 2 specific models. This is only my second post, please go easy on me :D

To add some context to this my brother recently traded his much loved CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow for an awesome Luger (the Luger is literally in mint condition). He realises however that he doesn't want to put hundreds and hundreds of rounds through something that is, quite frankly, a piece of history now. He mentioned that he may wish to get another 9mm for the range (we come from a part of the world where we can't carry guns, or for that matter use them for defence...but that's another matter for another thread me thinks), and the options that he thinks he might be interested in are the SIG P226 LDC and the CZ Shadow 2. The CZ would be an upgrade from what he had previous, and would obviously be a fairly familiar platform to us.

Would any of you good folks have any input on either of these guns? Which would give the most bang for buck for range time and possibly some competition work? He won't be purchasing anything for a while, I can still smell his wallet smouldering after that Luger burned a big old hole in his pocket :p , but I would value your opinions none the less!

Peace,
Quartermaster.

I was able to put a Sig Legion next to a plain CZ 75b. Not really a fair comparison. However, IMO the CZ was a better made gun with a better trigger, lower bore axis and (opinion only) a better fit in my hand. I am currently searching for a CZ now. In the SIGs favor was better control placement. Guns are very different but both will give years of trouble free service. I would strongly consider owning both and I may end up doing that.

I have no experience with any of the CZ's models, but many here find them to be great range and carry guns.

But I do have both the Sig P226 Mk25 (with an add'l .40 S&W barrel and slide upper) and a Sig M11a1 (really a P229). Both are superbly built, very accurate hand guns...better than anything else I've tried in 9mm. For carry purposes, I like the M11 for its shorter barrel and find that I shoot it just as well as the longer P226 in both slow and rapid fire.

If you're interested in them, I'd strongly suggest you spend some time at a rental range to accustom yourself to the grips on both the CZ and the Sig. Initially, I found the Sig's large grip difficult to manage in DA fire. I have size "L" hands and the reach to the trigger was a stretch for me. To address that, I changed out the P226's standard trigger for Sig's short reach model (an easy job that took all of 5 minutes). The M11 (P229) was OK in that regard, as it has a short reach trigger on it as purchased.

Accuracy wise, both Sigs are better than I can shoot now. From 15 yds, 1-1/2" groups are routine from a defensive "Weaver" stance. And from rest, my handloads will do an honest 2" at 25 yds...and that's as good as my eyes are any more.

One other point is that both of my Sig's employ the DA/SA mode of fire...a method that may result in different points of impact; the first shot fired DA and the remaining fired SA. For me, it took several months of dedicated self-training to merge the DA groups with those shot SA. It is a concern, but not really so much from defensive distances (3 - 10 yards), and only becomes important when out at 15 - 50 yds.

Thanks BoogieMan and rodfac, by the sounds of things we definitely need to get some range time on SIG of some description to get an impression of our own. The reason why my bro was curious about the P226 LDC is because it's very similar to the SP-01 shadow, both being competition focused guns I believe. And the CZ Shadow 2, well...that thing just looks plain cool!

Rodfac, you should definitely get your hands on a CZ 75 or one of it's variants, if you're not impressed, I'll eat my hat.

Thanks again for the replies guys :)

Peace,
Quartermaster

@quartermaster- I ended up ordering a CZ SP01 yesterday. CZ are tough to find on anyone's shelves right now. Go figure. A 40+ year old design has suddenly become one of the most sought after handguns on the market. You mentioned a Shadow 2. I believe you have to put in a pre-order for them. I didn't go with a shadow because I plan to use a Kadet kit with mine.

My SIG p226 models were the X-5 and X-6. Hard to beat those pistols. One of my CZ'z is a CZ75 SP-01 Shadow Target 2. The other is a CZ75 Tactical Sport.

The Shadow fits my hand size and grip best of all. The only thing I can fault is the right side safety. It touches the top of my hand.

For the money, IMO the Tactical Sport is the best value around. Just as accurate as any of the guns I mentioned.

If one gets a chance and has the money, those SIG X-Series are splendid pieces of machinery.

I've been on the list for a CZ97 for some time. I guess folks have figured out just how good those guns can be.
