Sig P226 Hi Capcity Mecgar Mags.

I read somewhere, I wish I could remember, that 17rd mags for Sig P226 were produced by Mecgar. Is this true? I've never come across them.
If so, where could they be found?
Thanks.

I do own one (sob, only one) MecGar 17rd. Until I found it hanging on a peg hook in a gun shop (standard MecGar packaging) about a year ago, I had never heard of them either. Works great and fits flush. On the left side, it has the MecGar name and logo, and the designation: "MG-P226-17" Witness holes on the right side are marked 5, 10, and 17.

The gun shop owner knew what he had, but sold it for the marked price of $40 because he thought it was a fair price. He also sold me a new factory 12-rd P229 .40 mag for $40, the only one he had. He told me about another store in town that might have P229 hi-caps, but that their prices would probably be more like $80-90.

Have never seen or heard of a MecGar 17 before or since.

MecGar makes good stuff. I have seen a few "entrepreneurs" on the web trying to sell them for $85 or so.

MecGar makes a lot of manufacturers' mags for them or has done so at one time or the other over the years. Their gig is contract manufacturing and they do it well.

In general, you can't go wrong with something they have their name on.

I have a couple of Mec-Gar 17 round mags for my P226 9mm. They work great. Externally, they are indistinguishable from the 15-rnd versions, but they're stamped with a different model number. If you give me a day or so, I'll post that number.

I'll share a little horror story. Two months ago, Cheaper Than Dirt had a list of what they said were Mec-Gar magazines. I ordered one 30 rounder for a Sig P226 and two 13 rounders for a Browning HP. The Sig mag locked back with one round left every single time. One of the Browning mags worked OK but the other actually broke the very first time I loaded it! The spring collapsed! It's going to be a long time before I have the nerve to order any after market magazines again.

MecGar makes "factory" mags for many major gun makers, including SIG and Beretta. Also Kimber, if memory serves.
