I ran across one of these in excellent condition...1 mag..."dead" night-sights...asking price of $469+tax...Prices on used Sigs seem to vary, widely. Thoughts??

Thanks.

Summit Gun Broker regularly does batches of CPO Sig P226s, usually in .40, and for $550. These have been back to the Sig factory, refurbished and refit, and are generally hard to tell from factory new.

For the extra $70, you would be getting what amounts to a 'new' gun, of known pedigree, and warrantied.

Currently, they are listed as out, but you can always send an e-mail and check.

Alternately, do some digging and see if you can find a competitively priced CPO.

Something to think about.

Back during-one of the first gun scares of the present administration I bought Sig P226 Elite in .40. I probably paid close to a thousand for it. It is a great shooter but I don't shoot it much. The Elite is pretty heavy and the recoil is pretty tame.

I prefer the P229 in 9mm or the P220 in .45.

No question about it being a good shooter.

An excellent suggestion. As to the P226 in .40 S&W; a great combination. Sig's are universally accurate in any caliber, well fitted, quality handguns. And the .40 S&W is a great caliber for defense or woods walks: good bullet selection in a variety of wts. to meet any need.

Not saying that the particular gun you are interested in is less than a good buy, but a factory reconditioned piece is a guaranteed Sig...worth the extra money in my opinion.

There is currently a P226 on GunBroker in 9mm for under three hundred dollars. The seller is very well liked on GunBroker and deals with LEO's as a distributor and takes trade-ins.

I have recently bought both a P226 in 9mm and a P229 in .40 from this seller. The current listed pistol is only a few units different from my serial number. Therefore, it is a Tysons Corner (West German) gun from the 1987 era. The only negative is it probably has the infamous mud cut slides (Scallops). The gun is about 70% condition appearance wise.

You can acquire the Siglite night sites for $60 bucks off eBay for the pistol you are lookin at. You can return most of the P series pistols to Sig Sauer for new night sights and a complete going over (similar as they do for the Certified Pre-Owned for $145 plus $30 round trip shipping).

There are some good deals to be had if one shops around.

I have a P226 in .40 S&W and these are fantastic guns

Damn right.

First gun I ever bought. Had no idea what I was doing, but fortunately lucked out.

I was excited that about the .357SIG option, and went so far as to buy a Barsto conversion barrel. After shooting both rounds, I decided to stick with the 40 barrel and purchased a bunch of 40 ammo.

Gun fits my hand perfectly with the Hogue rubber grips w/finger grooves.

Never carried the P226. It's a bit heavy. But it's damn fun to shoot, accurate as hell and a tack driver re: reliability. It's the gun in my nightstand in case someone ever breaks into my house at night.
