Sig P225

I feel really bad since I just bought two pistols - a new CZ 75B Mil 9mm, and an old (but unfired) CZ 70 Automatic (which I bought based on looks).

But then I discovered the Sig P225 and I think it's one of the most beautiful pistols made. I like the chunky squarish shape - it's masculine as opposed to the feminine lines of the Beretta 92FS.

I tend to buy guns based on looks, not performance. Shallow I know, but within reason. I hear a lot of good things about the 225 (and it HAS to be the 225 - I don't care all that much about having over a dozen rounds at my disposal).

What do you people think about the 225, aesthetically?

...although looks-wise, I'd be willing to bet that folks can't tell one apart from a P-228 from 5 feet away. ;)

P225, P228...Okay

Generally speaking, I like the compact Sig's - both 225 and 228, although the 225 has a slightly shorter grip not noticable from 5 feet away. They look better compact than full size (P226) in my personal humble opinion. Yes, as Stephen Camp said - very business-like, bulldog tough and no-nonsense. On the other hand, I don't like the compact CZ 75's - they look unnatural, as if someone just lopped a few inches off the front of the barrel. The CZ 75/85 were made to be full-size. The Sigs evoke Germanic efficiency.

I also like stainless steel Beretta's. A whole different look altogether. Racy.

Glocks have their appeal. Also very no-nonsense, utilitarian. But the molded polymer frame do not appeal to me as much as the crisp steel lines of the Sig.

(The way they shoot is important, too. I won't just sit and gawk at guns).

You might want to rethink your criteria for purchasing a firearm. I had a friend who bought a Sterling .380 because he thought it looked cool. Need I say more?

I do have a 225 by the way. I bought it primarily because it was a Sig and the price was good, but I suppose it does look nice.

I think it looks great.... like all Sigs...

It is also a fine gun, twas and may still be the best compact single stack 9mm compact in the world...
Buy it and be happy. :D

Laters,
MO

I've never met a Sig I didn't like.:D With that said,
my favorite models are the .45 caliber P220 and
the high capacity P228 9m/m.:) I currently own
both; and they are West German manufactured
and assembled; with the German proof mark's.
The P228, s/n B111XXX has Herndon, VA as its
place of importation; not Exeter, New Hampshire.
Proof mark's indicate the P228 was manufactured
in 1990; heck, the P228 wasn't introduced until 1989.
The P220 was manufactured in 1995. I love 'em
both, and hope to have them for a long, long
time.:D :)

Respectfully,

One of the reasons that drew me to the SIG line was their all business look. Made the Glocks look like toys (yes, I have a Glock). Even more business/no-nonsense-like are the HK USPs, IMO.

All business and beautiful. I own two...one a factory two-tone. Want somethign impressive...look at that puppy from the business end. That 9mm barrel opens up and looks like a .45 against that silver background.

Imagine how a two tone 220 looks from the business end if you are a BG!!

I will likely be in the market for one soon myself, so threads like this are always helpful.

I suppose how a handgun looks is part of the initial draw to any firearm. It certainly is no measure of its performance, however.

SIG's look like German hardware and the lines are reminiscent of of those found on WWII Panzers. I certainly did not pick them for their looks! In any case, its all purely subjective. And I am likely one of the few that can tell them apart from five feet away...

Having rejected the P226 as a selection many years back, I ended up with more than one today. I thought they felt like cr@p in my hand back then. I ended up with them today because I shoot them better than many other pistols. The most recent one is the P228 in 9mm. Like Ala Dans, mine is circa 1990 with a B109XXX s/n out of Herndon. With less than a thousand rounds through it, the barrel is just beginning to show some wear. Looks like it will become my female companions though, so its another P228 or a P225 (or perhaps a 239 - many say it is a better concealed carry piece than the P225).

Go P225 if you can get your hands on one. The few I have handled have been everything anyone says good about them.

I think the P-225 is a great looking gun! I bought my second one a few months ago. Traded the first one off because I wanted some new hi-cap whiz-bang blaster and immediately regretted the trade!
BTW: The P-239 is a good gun also but I never cared for the flat front strap or the way my pinky got pinched when inserting a magazine.
