Sig p225 and p228

I was convinced that I NEEDED a P-228. Great looks, the right size, Sig reliability...
Until I held a P-225 in my hand.
No other Sig feels like the 225. It's a study in how to build a functional platform that combines sturdiness with ergonomics.
It's the finest single stack 9mm you can lay your hands on (a nod to the P7 fans here) for under a thousand bucks. Accurate, much more accurate than I am, reliable, a great feel, and all in a package that shouldn't cost you more than $500 NIB with a spare mag and night lites.
The 228 is nice but when you hold it, and you close your eyes, that wide butt doesn't feel all that different than a 3rd generation Smith or a Beretta. Gimme the thin one...

Uhm; let's see where we are. You are asking for a comparison
of the Sig-Sauer P225 and P228, right? Both of these are very fine weapons; with the 225 being a single stack weapon,
as opposed to the 228's double stack capeability. As my friend, blades67 stated " there's no restriction on ownership", just finding either at the "right price" may be
a bit difficult. I own and shoot the P228 quite regularly;
and I find that it is every bit as accurate as the P226 9m/m, and a lot's better for carrying concealed. Also, hi-
cap magazines for the 228 are widely available. So the choice would ultimately come down to the cost factor. Prices
on these two great firearms generally run neck 'n neck;
with the more scarce P225 often demanding a little more
cash flow. Let us know upon which one you decide on!!!

I used a 225 as my off duty weapon. Can't say enough good about the 225. Purchased another a couple of weeks ago.

I owned a Sig-Sauer P225 and I really enjoyed it. The accuracy, reliability and the grip. Especially the grip.
However, for all of those that say this is the best egronomically designed single-stack 9mm haven't held or fired a Walther P5.
Now I know everyone's hands are not the same. But if you like the feel of the P225, you should also try the P5. Outstanding accuracy from a 3.5" barrel and 100% reliability
with all the brands I've shot. Not to mention the workmanship.
I would put these two 9mm's in a class by themselves. There simply is no finer German engineering on the planet. But you really should try the Walther.

Too big
Unless you're planning on shelling our $75+ for prebans or unless you really want a P228 bad, it doesn't make sense with postbans. It's just too big. The P225 is slightly thinner at the grips but all other dimensions are nearly identical. IMHO both are too big and heavy for 9mm carry tools.
The P225 is one of the best made SIG Sauers on the other hand. The slides fit tight to the frames and barrel lock up is extremely tight. The trigger pulls tend to be heavier and longer than the newer P228s, however.
Right now P225s are a bargain. If you look hard you can find a NIB K-Kote, Trijicons with two mags for around $500. NIB P228s with blued slide and standard sights sell for considerably more. If you can get a K-Kote P225 because corrosion resistance is better. Since as of this year P225s will be discontinued you can expect them to go up in price.

SIG Arms has not stopped importing the P225, I saw a new P225 at Mesa Jewelry & Loan about three weeks ago.
The real downside to buying the P225 will be getting spare magazines. In many areas they are as common as hens teeth and can cost almost as much as the P228 13 round magazines. Deals can be found, you just have to be patient.
The 13 round magazines can be expensive if you're impulsive. I haven't paid more than 60$ (including shipping) for any of my P228 magazines. I also have a number of ten round magazines for IDPA use, but I've yet to use my P228 at a match. (I keep taking my P220.
