Sig P225-A1

Hello there ladies and gents, i'm looking to see if anyone out there is a current owner or has fired/handled the "new" Sig P225-A1.

As my s/n indicates, i'm more of a wheel gun guy but, that said, I'm really taken by the look and proportions of this pistol. While i'm looking around and see if I can fondle one locally, i'd be interested in hearing thoughts from current owners. You'll notice that I'm in CT, so much higher capacity alternatives aren't a consideration (unfortunately). i'm willing to live with 8+1 vs the max 10+1

The price tag is admittedly steep, so there is that consideration.... but price aside, it just seems to be a really, really nice pistol.

Thanks in advance for any feedback, one way or the other...

A great pistol for range use. Big and heavy for capacity. I would take the 225 over the 239. I always disliked the really flat front strap on the 239. I had a P6 back in the day for a little while. It was comfortable and fun to shoot, but again... it's huge with almost the same capacity as a Shield, and less than a Glock 26.

Practical? No. Cool? Yes.

Excellent pistol for carry. I have always wondered why they dropped it here in the US and went with the P239. The P225 feels better in the hand and looks much better. I used to have the older P225 and regret selling it. The new ones that I have fondled (P225-A1) have been first rate. It is on my list of pistols to buy this year.

As for the S&W Shield comparison? You can always find a smaller package, but that doesn't mean it will be as comfortable and controllable as a proper sized handgun. I carry a Makarov and I have friends tell me I should get one of the tiny plastic KelTec's since they are smaller. I say "why? the trigger is awful and the recoil is terrible, hard to be accurate....etc.

While I get where you're going, I don't think the Shield has an awful trigger, terrible recoil, or is hard to be accurate with. I think the point Uncle was making was that there are a number of pistols on the market that offer the same capacity in a noticeably smaller size, or pistols with much larger capacity in basically the same size.

I own the West German Police surplus P6 version I bought years ago for much less than what these new P225-A1 guns go for. No doubt it is a really nice carry gun that shoots very reliably and accurately.

If you're inclined to spend the money for a new one, great. I think you might be better served with a decent used Sig P228 with 10 rd. mags at possibly half the price, but this is strictly "MHO".

Its a nice gun but IMHO overpriced. If it was in the $600 range maybe but with all the surplus guns out there or even a commerical P225 they are not cost effective at the prices they are selling at.

I sold my P239 when I got a P229 IMHO the P6 just isn't enough smaller to give up the extra rounds. If it were me and I'm limited to 10 rounds and I'm not pocket carrying I'm leaning more towards something that starts with a 4

out of the box, this was one great gun.One of the best sig has produced (IMHO) very accurate. A typical Sig in every way

you cannot go wrong--unless you MUST have a double stack. Then I would look at th enew compact p229

I too have a P 6 that went back to Sig and refreshed so shucking out over a grand for a like pistol is not going to happen. The thinner grip is to my liking and i have no concerns about having less ammo than some one with a 15 round pistol. The new Sig should be a real hit with many Sig connoisseurs.

Thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated!

Still have yet to fondle a new P225 in a LGS, that will be the deciding factor.
