SiG P220ST Range Report

Finally took my P220ST out! Gave it a good cleaning last night after finally picking it up, and took it to the range today. Man the gun was dirty coming from the factory. I know they test the guns at Sigarms for QA, and the inspectors QA signature was attached to it, so I had to clean it, but no problem. It gave us time to bond, lol! The dirt was much more noticable due to the silver stainless finish. The slide was very smooth as it glides against the frames rails. Very very smooth if i say so myself. Cleaned it down with MPro7 and then lubed it well with Militec and CLP. Shot 300 rounds without a single jam. And the extra weight on this ST is very noticable compared to my blued P220. About 12 ounces heavier to be exact. But very well balanced, and has a good hold and feel to my hand. I have to say that this P220ST is much more accurate than my blued P220. My groupings were much better, esp at longer distances up to 50 feet more or less. And not to be surprised, but I actually was able to shoot the gun off pretty well with one hand. At about 30 feet, I was getting all shots at a 2-3 inch grouping precisely and consistently. The recoil is still good like all P220's and all .45's, but the recoil is a bit more straight back instead of "muzzle up" and a bit more dampened. The front of the barrel or muzzle did not recoil as much due to the extra heft. I have to admit that the weight took a bit of getting used to, but after a few rounds, it all fades out and you get really used to it and enjoy the shots. Very very smooth, very very accurate, and very very nice! I must say that this is the best big bore handgun I have ever shot and held. This is one sweet shooting machine!!!

Thanks for the info, RT13. and congrats on your 220ST. I just handled one of these at the Gun Show here in town and now I'm thinking about getting one of my own.:)

It is an excellent gun

I have about 250 rounds through mine and it shoots dead on.

The extra weight is beneficial at the range.

Got addicted and took the gun out again today.:)
I put another 200 rounds through it with "0" jams again, and to my delight, it was even better. To add to my range report, this time I was much much more accurate and was hitting a 1-2 inch groupings at 30 feet with two hands, and 4-5 inch groupings shooting with one hand. Some of my shots were going into the same hole, no BS! I increased the distance and went up to 25 yards, and was consistently getting 5-6 inch groupings. Tried wih one hand, but was very difficult to see and focus at that distance. With one hand at 25 yards, I was hitting the large "man-size figure" paper target and was hitting it all over the torso. No consistent groupings, but they all hit the target. I'm happy with that since I had a very difficult time just hitting a target from 25 yards nor doing this accurately with a .45. I could never shoot this good with my other P220 and my Hk USP45, even with two hands.

Had lots of fun today and yesterday with this gun. I was shooting today like I've never shot before, and I know it is not me, but the gun that did it. I'm no John Wayne and would just call myself a novice shooter, but man was that session very very accurate for me. I know you guys are probably sick of hearing me blab about it, but man, I just can't say enough about this gun. Another note, as I mentioned that the recoil is less than the regular P220, and more straight back than muzzle up, the recovery is also much much more better. I was able to rapid fire and still get a good grouping. Don't know if it has anything to do with me being right handed, but just like the regular P220, this 220ST also tends to shoot more to the left than anywhere else if you don't properly shoot. With my other P220, it seemed to shoot low and left. This one is dead on target, but if you don't concentrate or focus on your target and just fire away, it will go left more than any other direction. It seems to just go left without any specific height preference though. But this gun hits to where you point it. So if there is a flinch causing a shot to stray left, it is the shooter. Of course as with Sigs, they outshoot the shooter. All I can tell you guys is, if you love accurate guns, this is it! It is a must have for anyone. I love it and can't get enough of it, nor can I say enough good things about it. No negatives to say about it! This is the best handgun I have ever shot. Thanks for all the comments and am glad to report and share with you guys. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year's. And stay safe!:p

Paid a ridiculous price of $679 for it from sportingarms.com. The shops here have been asking $859 for them but no way. Found this shop in Dallas who was awesome and shipped it to me withing a week.

Sig P220ST

Wow, my local gun shop had one in the case today for 699.00. I really really really really really really wanted to take her home. But I left it there. I really don't think it will be there too long either. I already have an E German P220 with night sights and I can't part with it and I didn't want to buy a second P220. He also has a very nice two tone Dan Wesson Pointman that came from the factory with a Jarvis barrel in itand is extremely accurate. Someone bought it from him about three months ago and had to sell it back due to $ problems. It has less than 500 rounds through it($649.00). I think I am going crazy. So many nice guns so little money. Argh!

P220

I just got a P220 "two tone" It is a very impressive shooter and after 100 rounds or so has gotten much more accurate.

Yes they do! When I first shot my P220 blue, the trigger pull wasn't that smooth yet, and I was struggling a bit for accuracy. But after the first trip to the range, it was all different. Wait till you have fed it over 500 rounds. Smooth and accurate!
