Sig P220 10mm

Picked up a new gun today at my LGS. I own lots of Sigs, but this is my first 10mm of any make. Hope to shoot it soon, but I don't have any ammo for it yet. Man, they wanted $30.00 for a box of 20. Guess I will have to check out online prices if I have any hope of shooting it very often.

I bought a G20 several years back, after the first 3 or 4 boxes I sold it. Now that I reload I want a 10mm again. With a 10mm you better be independently rich or reload...:p

You also may check into either a 40 Short & Wimpy barrel, or some people just shoot the 40 in the 10mm barrel.

I have had luck finding 10MM at a reasonable price online. My last score was $16.95 a box after shipping though it is currently out of inventory at that supplier. I helped make it out of stock though :)

You don't "get a little" ... you get a LOT (at least with full-spec loads like Underwood and DoubleTap). It's VERY impressive ballistically.

Quite true. 180gr moving at 1400-1500 fps could cause a fair amount of damage.

To the OP, watch for Cabelas to run a sale on Sig ammo. I have picked up 20 boxes of 50's for $18.00 per box delivered. It really nice ammo and consistently runs 1250fps.

It's very easy to reload for--it is, after all, 40 cal, so bullets are pretty cheap; buy 500 pack starline brass for pretty cheap and your are all set to load one of the all-around most potent semi-auto pistol cartridges there is.

Don't go with any of that wimpy stuff. A lot of the stuff you can get cheap is close to or literally the same as shooting .40S&W. If your going to shoot 1CM shoot the full power loads. Underwood is good especially if you defray the shipping cost by buying quantity. Or roll your own.

Very, very nice. I purchased the single action only Sig P220 in 10 mm and find it to very accurate. It was my first 10 mm, but now I am hooked. I really like the power it can deliver.

Ammo is available for a reasonable cost if one is willing to take the time to look.

Double Tap started watering down their 10mm ammo a few years ago. I don't know if they load it properly today. because of that I found that Underwood loads 10mm properly and they are affordable. Buffalo Bore is true 10mm as well but almost double the price of Underwood. if you buy 10mm ammo from anyone other than these two you should just shoot a .40S&W.

The 10MM actually covers a lot of ground between the upper end .40 and the full bore Underwood loads. Both Sig (180 grains at 1200 FPS = 624 ft lbs) and S+B (180 grain at 1164 FPS = 543 ft lbs) offer ammo that I have seen on sale at reasonable prices from various suppliers - the S+B generally being cheapest.

The entire "if your not shooting Underwood your not shooting a 10MM" is overdone. That being said everyone should experience Underwood ammo at least a few times out of the 10MM :)

Not really that overblown. Underwood 180 gr. 40S&W is moving at 1100 fps. so if you're gonna shoot S&B 10mil, what's the point? Tons more choices of pistol in .40 and weaker practice loads are much cheaper still. The 1cm isn't making a comeback because it does what .40 does in a more expensive package.:)

I think that gun and ammo manufacturers should get their act together. 10mm should be 10mm strength and 10mm pistols should have optional barrels and recoil springs for cheap target practice with .40S&W. That's what's great about Tanfoglio and Glock. Just need everyone else on board. That or make the .40 strength 10mm loads as cheap as .40. Maybe that would be even better!

Your comparing the absolute top (or very near it) .40 to a middle of the pack 10MM to get that comparison. Its kind of the same comparison that got "the 10MM is close to .41 magnum" thing going. Its much closer to .357 Magnum if you measure evenly across the board (top to top for instance)

Yeah, but the point is you get a 10 because it offers something you can't get in a .40.

.357 is one of the best fight stoppers going. I love the fact that I can have 15 rounds of .357 equivalent ready to go. Never really did understand the need of some to compare it to weak .41 magnum loads.

I shot both DoubleTap and Underwood when I was choosing a carry round. I couldn't tell any difference between the perceived recoil between them. I was finding some Underwood casings that had blown their primers out (which on one occasion caused a jam when the primer was left on the gun), so I've carried only DoubleTap in my 1911 since. I never saw that with the DoubleTap, although for a while I was seeing flattened primer craters with the 200 gr rounds. The missing primers might have been a temporary problem with the Underwood's. I think both manufacturers are striving to operate right on the max permissible, but not over, and that means that when they see or hear of an over-pressure problem, they try to make a small change that eliminates that problem. With both brands, I see variation over time because of that continuous experimentation to stay right on the full-spec line, but not over. I've also shot (and shoot) both Underwood and DoubleTap in my .44mag, and I had one batch of Underwood that were clearly overpressure (hard to eject the casings). Underwood replaced them, and no problems since. The two brands seem to be essentially the same power.
