I am considering purchasing a Sig 226 in 9mm or .357 sig. I do not want a blued version or two-tone. What is the difference between K-kote and the nitron coated Sigs? Which coating would you recommend?
Thanks, Sling Shot

I have a K-Koted 226 and have never seen a Nitron coated one (as far as I know) It may be a replacement for K-Kote.

K-kote was an old finish and it wasn't very good, came off pretty easily. All new production Sigs have either stainless-steel slides and are either nickel or nitron finished except for the P-220 and P245 which have stamped steel slides and either nickel, blued, or Ilaflon finishes.

Older P226 9mm's are still around and they have the stamped steel slide and either nickel, blued, k-kote slides. I'd get a newer P226 with the stainless steel slide. If it's a standard one, it will come with the Nitron finish unless you get one that's been nickeled. Check out www.sigforum.com, www.sigarms.com, www.gunnery.net

I have a new 229 w/ the Nitron finish. This is far superior to any of the other SIGs I have owned. I have been carrying it as a deep-cover gun, against my skin, inside the waist-band. The Nitron looks like new each nite, w/ the wipe of the silicone cloth.

SIG has a new finish out called Ilifon or something like that which they claim is the best thing since sliced bread. I don't know anybody who has gotten one yet however.
