Sig or Baer?

I am down to a choice between a sig 229 sport in 357 sig or another Baer like the Monolith in 38 super. Any comments?

By the way I already have 2 Baer's in 45, so I am trying a different caliber and to a certain extent I am considering a different type of gun. I hear (on this site) that the Sigs are pretty good overall. I am going to buy the gun in the next week or so. (have to go on a quick business trip early next week)

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Personally I like variety in my shooting equipment. In my humble opinion, (2) 1911's is more than enough. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for. Go for the Sig 229... it's one of my favorites.

Peter,

Just in case you didn't know, the SIG P229 Sport doesn't have a true compensator on it. The compensator is attached to the frame not the barrel. I'm not sure if that would be a factor in your decision. On the other hand, the P229 Sport IS extremely accurate. It comes with adjustable sights, extended mag release, and smoother trigger. Try out www.sigforum.com. Hope that helps.

I would sell one of those Baer .45's ang get one in 38super or any other competition caliber. The .357sig seems promising for competition purposes. Then I would get the Sig 229 in it's basic configuration wether it's .40 or .357. I think the 1911 variants have more potential in the race gun category where as the Sig's shine as combat arms.

I put the gun on hold today. I have to go out of town so I could not take the time to fill out the paperwork till tuesday. Very nice trigger on the 229. It has a lot of take up slack but after that very clean breaking.

Thanks for the advice. I will let you know how it shoots next week.

While I don't have a 229, I do have a Sig 220 and just love that pistol. Then again, I'm not a big fan of the 1911 (no flames please). I'm hooked on Sig. I think that you'll truely enjoy the pistol.
Good shootin',
Bill

I said I would make a few comments after I picked it (229 sport) up. Great gun, exceptional trigger, (once you get over all of the take up slack). It does not recoil significantly and is very, very accurate. I was shooting 1.5" 15 yard groups with factory ammo. Not bad for a new gun and no experience with the round. It is exceptionally well made gun. Beatiful machining and very tight.
