SIG Mosquito

My SIG mosquito always stove pipes on the next to last round in the mag. I contacted SIG and they sent a new mag but the same thing happens. Any suggestions?

I contacted SIG and they sent a new mag but the same thing happens.

Is this a fired case or a live round that is stove piping?

Most stovepipes I've read about are empties not clearing the ejection port and are due to extraction problems, say dirty extractors or faulty ejectors. Some can be cured with different slide return springs or different ammo.

If a new magazine was sent by SIG this would be an attempt to cure a live round stove piping if memory serves me right.

As I'm sure you know, the Mosquitoes are sensitive to ammo, come with two return springs for tuning and all that. Have you tried different ammo?

If your stove piping a live round, it's possible your slide is NOT making it back far enough to get behind the next round and feed it properly. Before you have to try other things such as polishing and tweaking and what-not, see if you can find some CCI Mini Mags and try those. My Mosquito is a early model and I remember SIG recommending a certain Mini Mag part number like 0030, which equates to a certain grain and bullet profile. Mine also came with two diiferent recoil springs.

The Remington ammo may be causing some or all of your issues. I would think that by SIG sending a new mag maybe they thought your old mag spring was weak or the feed lips were bad.

Do you always load your mags up full? If so maybe try loading only 7 or 8 or 9 rounds and see if it still has issues. Make sure you have the correct recoil spring in. Once again these pistols get a bad rap for cycling, feeding, and extraction problems, some warranted, some not.

I haven't had any issues with my Mosquito that wasn't attributed to the ammunition. She is, indeed, a picky eater and performs better with hotter loads of higher quality.

See my review: https://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=561824

.22 LR is filthy stuff, so clean her well. I get visible and moderate filth after only 3 or 4 magazines. Don't gunk it up with CLP, wipe her down good after cleaning and then lube the rails with any high-quality product; I've been using Tetra. If you got the Mosquito new make sure you have the "standard" spring installed and give if some time to loosen up.

It is really disappointing to me that Sig hasn't permanently pulled this model from production. I'm a huge Sig fan but the Mosquito 22 is the worst gun I've ever purchased, especially since the Walther p22, sw mp, and sr22 exist, among others...

With that said, I was able to get mine working okay by using a really light polishing bit on my Dremel for the barrel feed ramp, after reading that others had done the same with success. Try that and I think you'll be much happier.

Funny, I had read lots of bashers of this model, before finally purchasing one a few months back, but thought they were just whining and that I was so much smarter and mine would work with right ammo. Not the case. I deserve what I got...

Good luck

I was just talking to the owner of my LGS about a Camo Mosquito he has and he told me that SIG had or is stopping production of the Mosquito.

The mosquito is definitely the red headed step child of the Sig Sauer family. I actually purchased this gun and when I went to go pick it up the guy talked me out of it due to jamming/misfires. If you use the hot loads it should be ok. It's very finicky

I have never read anything good about the Mosquito . Surprising with Sig's otherwise good reputation

sig doesn't make the Mosquito. they just put their name on it. which sucks for fans that expect sigs usual excellence.

I have over 500 rounds through mine by now... After some teething issues and figuring out what ammo it likes to eat I have had zero issues.

I just had it flawlessly toss >150 rounds of Remington Golden Bullet from a bulk bucket yesterday.

Either I'm lucky or wearing it in helps a lot.

This is dated Feb. 2015 and I copied it off the SIG TALK website.

We heard some chatter at SHOT Show regarding a few more of Sig's handguns being discontinued due to the Germany export situation. Initially we understood that the Mosquito and 1911-22 line were both going to be discontinued since they were made in Germany.

Today I made a follow up call to Sig to verify that they were indeed discontinued before I published anything online. I was surprised (even though I should not have been) to hear that the P232, Tactical 2, and SSG lines were also discontinued (in addition to the 1911-22 and Mosquito). Any pending orders that were previously in the system have been canceled.

This was really disconcerting but since they were all made in Germany it is obvious that, in the short term, they would not be available. Currently, we haven't been given any indication that Sig will build these models in the US.

They are, from what I'm told, planning on building the P226 X5E / X6E and P210 pistols in the US. I wouldn't expect anything on that front before summer (or potentially much later).

It is my understanding that at one time they were made here in the USA. It is also my understanding that a company called the L&O Group owns both SIG and GSG, so it would be a safe bet that GSG has their hand in the making of the Mosquito and of course the SIG branded 1911, both of which are built in Germany.

I'm a SIG fan so I tried both the Mosquito and the SIG .22 caliber 1911. I was disappointed with both pistols, especially the 1911. I found the quality of both pistols to be substandard, not at all what I expected from SIG. :(

I feel compelled to say that I'm very lucky or Sig got lucky when they built
my Mosquito. I've read all of the negative postings on the internet that I
could find, plus a good number of positive comments from folks like myself
who have had good experiences with there Sig Mosquitos. I've had my Mosquito
a little more than 3 years, put in excess of 1200 rounds through it with very
few problems. The Mosquito has been somewhat picky about ammo, it didn't
work well with standard velocity .22lr, but has preformed flawlessly with
high velocity rounds. The only other ammo that did not work well was naked
lead ( unplated) bullets, these caused feed problems.
After finding what worked well and sticking to quality high velocity with
copper plated bullets, I've found the Mosquito to be a pleasant, reliable
sidearm without any further problems.

That's because Sig doesn't build either of those cheap pistols.
