Sig magazines

I have brand new P228 magazines and they are reall hard to load them to max capacity, but I attribute that to them being new. How can I break them in? Also when I load one of the full I can hear a little rattle, but when I take one bullet out, the rattle is gone. Is this because they are new?

Its been a while since i shot my 228 but i don't remember it being exceptionally hard, not like my ParaOrd LDA 14.45 at least!

I presume you're using hi capacity mags. Mags don't get any easier or broke in, you just get better which makes it seem easier. A quality mag spring will not get any easier that you can feel after use. The HKS speedloader for the 228 works very well for loading the mags.

Whenever i get a rattle in my mag its usually because my follower has bound up and the spring can't keep preasure against the ammo stack. This has never occurred with my OEM Sig mags. If you're using aftermarket mags and they are doing that then either live with it and don't use it for defense or get Sig mags.

If you're using Klinton [10-round] mags...

...it may be necessary to disassemble the mags, clean them, polish the followers and springs and then reassemble. Dry lube if you have it.

When I bought a 10-round mag for my P229, it would only hold eight rounds until I went through the above. The follower had just enough flash on it to drag and cock sideways. After I cleaned it up, I could load ten rounds by hand.

The factory is so afraid of the 10 rounder holding 11 that they made it a real bear to load. A lot of people recommend that you load 8 or 9 or however many it will take and let it set for a couple fo days. I have had very good luck with the Pro-Mag 13 rounders in my Sig. They are availabel in nickel from CDNN for less than 20.00. I like my factory Sig mags, but they are now 100.

I had the same problem with my P-228 mags. The Klinton mags need to be loaded to capacity and allowed to sit. They loosen up after a while. I have also had this problem with my glock 10 rounders.

Yea the rattle is annoying, but once inserted in the gun mine don't rattle any more. I have never had any problems getting 10 rounds into mine.

I'll second what maxwayne suggested. Load them up as much as you can, and let them sit for a while. I just purchased a mag which was tough to load, and it's resting with a full load of bullets as we speak.

Also, if you look around, you can pick up factory hi-cap mags for less than a 100 bucks. I see new 13 round .40 cal 229 mags (I say 229 because that's what I have) regularly for 85 bucks.
