Sig Magazines

I would like to thank all of you who helped me make my decision on purchasing a Sig p226 in .40 with the nickel finish and sig night sights. I purchased it for a very fair price from a dealer mentioned here, Jersey City Armory.Greg Monte is a fair dealer.
Now to the question. I am interested in purchasing some pre-ban hicaps for this gun. Are there any available in .40cal or .357sig for the p226. Where can I possibly buy them from ?
Also, Is there anything i should know(maintenance wise or preventative wise) to keep my sig shooting good?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Congratulations on an excellent purchase.

I would only make two suggestions about keeping your P226 in good shape--you may already be well aware of these, but I thought to go ahead and mention them in case they might prove useful.

First, in the unlikely event your SIG ever has a problem, the SIG factory service department is the best resource for getting the problem taken care of. Second, many gunowners modify their guns or have them modified--I've done this myself. But, personally, I think that the best SIG is straight factory, without mods.

JMHO.

The 226 in .40 and .357 was introduced after the 1994 ban, so therefore hicap mags are not available for civilian use. I bought a preban mecgar 17 round 9mm preban and it will hold and feed 13 rounds of .40 reliably.

I second that I have put over 1000rounds in my 226 40sw using Mecgar 17rd 9mm mags not one jam. I can get 12 rounds easy 13 makes it harder to insert into your gun.Hi-cap Mecgars can be had for about the same price as regular 10rd sig mags $35. And Mecgar actully makes the 226 mags now for Sig!

If you really want to do it right, I've heard of folks taking the follower out of a 10rd 40S&w mag and swapping it into a preban 9mm mag. Then, you'd have a "factory" sig magazine with the proper follower for your application. I'm not sure, but I don't believe that there is much (if any) difference between the feed lips in the 9 and 40 versions. Fom what I've seen, 10rounders are running about $15-20 and pre-ban 9mm's are running $40 used to $69 new in wrap. I've even seen a few nickel plated 15rders new in wrap for $80. As for maintenance, keep it clean and lightly oiled. My 226 likes Breakfree, tetra gun grease and drylube (not in the same places of course).

Double Tap,

Could you please post here or email me where you found preban MecGars for $35. I haven't had any luck finding them at those prices.

John Overbey,

Could you please do the same for the used factory $40 and new $70 mags in wrapper?

Thanks both.
