Sig CPO's

Has anyone ever bought a certified pre-owned Sig that can tell me about the quality? It' be nice to get an all metal Sig, but they're a bit pricey for me...

It's a SIG that was traded in back to the factory, maybe because the department was issued new pistols and SIG bought the old ones back or some other reason. They've had springs replaced, often the slide gets refinished, new night sights, etc. One thing to note is unlike a brand new SIG it only comes with a 1 year warranty.

If the price is decent I say go for it. Honestly I'm not sure if I'd pay that much more of a premium over a nice used pistol that I was able to inspect myself.

I bought a CPO P229 and P226 about 7 years back for $499 each and they have been great and most others are reporting the same. Internally they looked excellent. No problems with 1000 plus through the P229 and 4000 plus through the P226.

However if possible I like to buy locally or from someone who posts a lot of pictures of the actual pistol you are buying. SIG has started touching up the frames of some CPOs. They are doing pretty much an "overspray" type of finish though. You can tell by examining one in person and maybe via a picture as you can see dings on the frame but they are finished LOL or lettering/numbers look shallow and filled in maybe unevenly. That is not necessarily a bad thing but such can make it difficult to evaluate wear on the pistol, particularly on the frame rails.

Here are my CPOs and as far as I can tell there was no refinishing on the slide or frame and absolutely no dings, etc. Grips have been changed though.

I picked up a P220 Match CPO gun a few years ago and haven't had any problems with it. If you can find them for a good price I say go for it, they have been rebuilt and are ready to go again. Unless a ding or scratch is worth the extra price to you, it is a good way to get an excellent weapon for a better price.

my 220 was a CPO, one magazine, DAO, no night sights, police trade in from a few years ago. no complaints, might even send it in for the standard D/A S/A with decocker conversion.

Last summer I located a late model Sig 220 .45ACP , CPO with the E2 grip at the Kittery Trading Post at a very competitive price, several hundred dollars less than a new one and still less than several other used Sig 220's on the shelf next to it. The gun appeared mint and was in the Red cardboard box and the manuel was stamped Pre-owned. No night sights, but I still grabbed it as it looked unissued. The following Monday I called Sig in NH and searching their database they confirmed it had been a LEO gun from an unknown agency in Missouri. It appears it sat in the armory and was never issued, most likely traded back to Sig when the Department upgraded sidearms. Slick pistol at a great price. And, it shoots sweet too! Only issue is Gold Dots don't fit in the magazines (slightly too wide, only two fit in), so I use the new Sig HP ammo.

I bought a CPO (red box, red band on the grip) P250 in .45 a couple or three years ago.

The only reason I could tell it from brand new was a little bit of finish wear on the barrel. The slide and everything else was in great shape and the gun itself has never once had an issue.

If you see a CPO Sig you want and you like the price, jump on it. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the pictures and comments! I practically fell in love with the p229 I rented at the range. If I can find a good CPO, then I'll definitely consider it. As of now, I am currently leaning towards the sp2022 or the p320 once the new ones reach the civilian market. Never like a striker-fired gun I shot, but I'd love to try out a p320.

All things considered, I still really like the p229. If I can find one for a good price, I don't see myself turning it down. Then again, getting an sp2022 with the lifetime warranty is hard to pass up.
