SIG cancelling P22X SPORT SERIERS?

I am trying to find a P220 Sport. Actually SIG still had them (226 Sport, 229 Sport and 220 Sport) displayed at the Shot Show 2002. But these guns are no longer in SIG's 2002 catalog and I couldn't find any one has the P220 Sport in stock. What's going on? Anyone know where to look for a P220 Sport?

They have all gone dealer direct on special order only. So you either need to go to an authorized SIG dealer and order one, find a SIG dealer who ordered one on spec, or search for a used one. I have both the P220 and P229 Sports, looking for a P226 Sport, they are great guns.

I have a 229 sport also. What a great gun. It is fun to shoot, accurate and easy to handle. To bad it is now a special order item.

How do you compare and contrast the 220 sport and the 229 sport?

Another gotcha with the dealer direct is that the authorized dealer has a minimum purchase they have to meet and that can't include the standard P series guns that are available through distributors.

So, your dealer has to make a heckuva financial purchase to fund the acquisition of your Sport or P210. Minimum as I understand is now $5,000 to be on Sig's blessed list.

It never ceases to amaze me when I see crap like that. Sig obviously wants to deal only with government agencies with these policies. No distributor/middleman or end dealer will carry the desirable/higher priced Sigs because of it, due to high priced inventory issues and the typical lack of buyers willing to shell out the bucks for primo guns.

Sigs are great shooters, they need to change their policies if they want to sell more firearms.

Another option is to have Iron Cross Imports bring you one in from Frankonia of Germany. You will also save a few bucks that way. I am not associated with either firm.

Peter, as you know the P229 Sport is one sweet pistol. I even put the top from my .40 standard P229 and put it on the Sport bottom for IDPA matches so I get the good trigger. The .357 does have a good blast to it though and the compensator doesn't help much. The P220 Sport has no problem with blast. I have added a Sprinco to both my Sports and between that and the compensator, the P220 Sport recoil is similar to shooting my Steyr GB in 9mm.
