I have been able to gather some answers to my barrel conversion questions. My gun is a Sig P239 40s&w but this should also apply to the P229 and HK USP/USPc.
1) If you buy a 357sig or 40s&w, the barrels are interchangeable. You can find the barrels at olyarms.com, sigarms.com, barsto.com, and other accessory sites
2) You can also order a 9mm barrel for your 357sig or 40s&w from barsto.com. The barrel has special dimensions to fit the slide's internal dimensions.
3) A reverse conversion from 9mm to 357sig or 40s&w is not possible. If you want the 3-in-1 option, you have to buy a 357sig or 40s&w weapon!!
4) No other conversions are necessary. You can keep the same springs, slides, and magazines
5) If the barrel is in stock, it will take 1-2 weeks, otherwise, expect 4-6 weeks or even longer. You will get your barrel, but it will take some patience. Irv III at barsto.com will deliver.
6) Both the HK and Sig are finely engineered wonders. The barrels will most likely just drop in nice and tight (mine did). If they don't, barsto will fit it to your slide for $15.
7) The barrels are machined from stainless bar stock and are beautifully made.
8) The barrels are steep ($185 + 10 shipping). The savings on cheaper ammo and additional guns are worth it IMNSHO
9) HK and Sig recommend using the right magazines for each caliber barrel. I have received e-mails both supporting AND contradicting this point. Let me just say...if you choose to use a 40s&w magazine for 9mm rounds YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Hope this answers most of the questions out there. I'm doing my HK USPc40 next. Irv III is taking orders, but the barrels won't be ready for a while.
