Sig 9mm or .45

Hey I just got the HK USP.45, haven't even picked it up yet and I want to buy another gun.

I am thinking that I want to get the Sig but I cannot decided between the P220 or the P226.

I have used them both and really like them both. I don't know if I want another .45, or a 9mm.

What do you guys think?

Maybe you can help me make a decision. Are there any accuracy or reliability advantages to either of them?

Can't have just one...worse than potato chips!
You know, I'd put some rounds through your USP before you pick up that Sig. Not that it's a bad gun, but because the controls are so very different than the USP. I had a 220 once and the first thing I noticed transitioning to it was that the grip was thinner (7 or 8 rounds vs 10 in the USP), the decocker is a LOONG reach compared to the USP and the thinner slide release took alot of getting use to. Now, I look for guns w/ similar feels to them before I consider them. ;)

Yeah I noticed they were different right off the bat but I thought it might be nice to have a different make. Damn, it's so hard. There are so many cool guns out there. How are you supposed to make up your mind. I thought about getting one of the compact HK's too but really liked the SIG as well. I am confused if you can't tell.

I feel you pain :) It truly is an addiction. This year alone, I've purchased 9 handguns, sold 4 though to fund the purchases. I sold my 220 & my Glock 21 to get my USP Expert 45 and that helped slow me down. $1000+ guns tend to cool off the bug for awhile :D
If you're really set on buying another gun, might I suggest a good 22lr pistol. You can't beat the cheap practice! Less than $20 for 1000 rounds and you can shoot a good long time.

Come on man, I want something with a big bang. Just kidding. How much better is the expert than the regular USP .45. I noticed you said that you had one. Is it just a little more accurate or what? Should I have gotten the expert instead of the regular model?

Why do you prefer the 9mm CZ?

I don't prefer the 9mm for all guns, just Sigs. Its just a personal nitpick, but for me the .45 Sigs (P220 and P245) just don't shoot as well as the 9mm Sigs do. In most guns I do prefer .45, but for whatever reason I can't explain, I just prefer Sigs to be 9mm. You would be best off trying a 220 and 226 side by side yourself, as your results may vary. ;)

Both are accurate and reliable pistols and you wouldn't go wrong with either.

If you don't already own another 9mm, it would be a good idea to go ahead and get the Sig 226. Wallyworld has 9mm at $10.50 for a box of 100. That's about how much you would pay for a box of 50 .45's. A bit more bang for your buck.

Sometimes I just can't afford to buy too much ammo for my .45. That's when my 9mm saves the day.

OK OK...My favorite 9mm is an Italian Centrion. It goes bang everytime, eats everything I feed it and is very accurate. I had a bad experience with Sig and unless I come across one with one of those "too good to be true" deals, I don't plan to buy one and can't really recommend them (long story...perhaps in another thread). Lately, I have been toying w/ the idea of getting a 9mm 1911...
As for the Expert...I'm glad I own both. The USP is my house gun and the Expert is the gun I take if I plan to show off at the range. I will have about 10k rounds through both guns by the end of the year :D

Try shooting the P226 .40 if you get a chance. To me the 226 just fits the best, but on the other hand, I prefer the .40 & .45 to the 9mm for defense, that's why I like the 226 .40.

I'd definitely not get another HK. You did your research well, and picked what felt best for you. Make that gun The HK you get to know inside and out.

But for the sake of expanded horizons, try a different design and caliber. A 226 would be a fine choice.

I know nothing about HKs, so this is by no means a knock. It's just general opinionizing. Applies to lots of things...except wives. :D
