Sig 938 relative to Walther PPS

I have a Walther PPS and love it. Put a Hogue slip on grip to make it fill my hand a little and reduce recoil perception.
I have a Sig P238 and love it. Put a new grip on it to fill out my hand more. getting ready to put some ATS sights on it.

So...I've got the impression the 938 was just a 238 up-chambered to 9mm. What have you guys in experience with the recoil on this? If you've also fired a PPS..could you please give me your thoughts on the differences between the two.

I have the 238 & 938. Prior to choosing the 938 I evaluated that along with the PPS & the shield. Obviously choose the 938 because ultimate I felt that the recoil, ability to get on target quickly, accuracy and concealabilty was better for me. I did like the ergo's of the PPS and it's an excellent firearm. The 938 has more felt recoil than the 238 but it really isn't as bad as you would think for such a small firearm. Very manageable. If you love the PPS than I would stay with it, that said I love the 938 and it's been excellent for me. I suggest you go to a range, most will have the 938 to rent and you can get a decent feel for the gun. If you do that, I suggest if they have it the 7 round mag extension, it has a distinct different feel than the flush 6 round mag.

Today I shot a P938 next to a Glock 43. My wife preferred the P938 as she felt the rubber grip on it (that particular model) both fit her hand better and helped with the recoil. The P938 we shot had the 7 rd mag with extension though, and I think that extension made a big difference. For some reason I almost felt like the P938 was a bit harsher in the recoil department than the Glock 43. That said neither was what I would call problematic. I was surprised how well they both shot and I'd feel comfortable with either. I'm not used to manual safeties and would have to get used to that, but I feel like the safety on the P938 was well designed and it was fairly easy to disengage and fairly difficult to engage accidentally.

P938 is smaller than the Walther. It's the gold standard in pocket 9mm. It shoots accurate and easily controllable with HST 124+p loads.

I have a PPS and a P238 and was wondering the same thing. I'm looking forward to seeing the responses. The P238 is such a smooth shooter and while I really like the PPS I think I would prefer the P938.

I love the PPS IF you have deep enough pockets. I'd rather have it in a gunfight than a 938. But sometimes only a 938 will fit. Some models have rubber Hogue grips which make it a pussycat recoil wise. I pocket carry both depending upon the situation.

The .380 is obsolete.

The P 938 is in fact a slightly larger size p 238 however it is also much more than that. The pistol handles like it's little brother with G10 grips and extended mag it certainly tames the jump when firing. For a s/a cocked and locked carry pistol the P 938 is hard to beat.

I just got to finger a Sig P938 at Gander Mountain with the 7 shot extended mag. Yep...that extended mag makes it feel SO much better. I think it now needs the Hogue rubber grips like I have for the P238.
So...recoil is the only issue I need to know about at this point. What is the perceived recoil of the Sig P938 vs the Walther PPS? I shoot the PPS with the 7 shot mags, by the way.
I might be able to rent a 938, but that'll be weeks away and I'm not sure if they have the extended mag. I'm curious to hear anyone's direct experiences from this forum for now.
I'm contemplating trading in the PPS to get the P938 if there's not much recoil difference. The PPS is kind of big and heavy for my daughter purely in terms of packing purposes. She can handle the recoil of the PPS, it's the bulk issue.

I have completely disassembled both guns. The working parts are identical for all intents and purposes. The 9mm is beefed up to accommodate the heavier recoil. Parts will not interchange that I know of. There is a bit more recoil to the 9mm version. My only beef with the 9mm is the aggressive front strap checkering on the grip, which is absent on the .380.

IMHO PPS > P938.

The 938 is smaller and has a better trigger feel than the PPS. That's about it.

In all other respects, I feel the PPS is a better carry pistol. It's a rugged, modern design (I just don't trust the US-designed Cohen SIGs), it's a softer shooter, it has no manual safety, and I expect QA/QC to be better (again an Ulm Walther versus Hew Hampshire SIG).

Connecticut SIG? What happened to NH?

Due to unfortunate timing, I got to try a P938 with the Hogue rubber grips and 7 shot mag..but my daughter didn't. I didn't have the Walther or our P238 there for direct comparison, but the memory impression I had was that the P938 had slightly more muzzle flip than the P238..but not a lot more and less sharp snap than the Walther. I was pretty jazzed. I talked to the kiddo about it and she preferred the Hogue rubber grips on our 238 to the feel of the Walther.
So....I'm picking up the rainbow model for her on Saturday. I already ordered some black Hogue rubber grips for it and two 7 shot mags as the rainbow model only comes with the 6 shot. I hadn't yet installed the ATS sights on our 238, so I'm just going to install them on the 938. The yellow front sight really stands out and I'm going to use the pink back sight for sight color contrast and coordination with the slide.

Ya dun good! I think you made a wise decision as the little 238 will serve you well. Put a hundred rounds through it and keep her oiled and it will run like a sewing machine.

I shot a bone-stock P938 for the first time a few weeks ago at a SiG and silencer product demonstration a LGS was putting on. At 15 yards using SiG JHP ammo I was within an inch of the bullseye with every shot. I don't think I have ever shot better. I also have no recollection of recoil at all. I didn't even notice (and I am of light build at 5'10" and 160lbs with small hands).

I don't see the point of the 238 based on my experience. Before shooting the 938 I might have leaned towards a 238 but after I wouldn't even consider the 238.

After I get to fire more than 5 shots from the 938, I'm suspecting I'll have the same attitude. Unfortunately we already own the 238 and have maybe 600 rounds of ammo for it. I might have to find a way to unload that to get a second 938 if both my gals take a liking to it. The wife had lost interest..and suddenly seemed interested again at the prospect of the 9mm in the same package that she liked. Unfortunately she really likes the look of the Scorpion model and everybody is REALLY proud of those on the price.
