I have been looking into the Sig 550 series, as a plinker, target, and varmint gun. Long time fan of Euro-style weapons, and have taken a love for Swiss-bred weaps.
However, the reports of the Sig 556 being a troublemaker have me worried. Numerous reports of bad accuracy, buttstocks coming apart, etc. But, these are all dated 2008-2010, and many make no mention of ammo use with accuracy (55gr? 75? 62?) It's known that the SIG556 likes 75gr rounds best, with 55 making 2-3" holes @ 100yds. (still minute-of-2/LG/VMT)
Also, any thread involving "is the sig556 that bad?" or "my [firearm] broke and the company sucks!" is going to attract EVERY OTHER unhappy owner with a similar situation for 100 miles.
So, my question is this - on a BROAD scale, HAPPY OWNERS included, has the SIG 556 improved in QC? Are they worth getting? Or are they still hit-or-miss like I've heard many of the new Sigs are?
Thankyou!
