Anyone seen one in person yet? What do you think of it?

Of course now that I am heavily invested in another AR build, and have collected a small mountain of AR mags, Sig goes and releases a rifle I wanted years ago. A semiauto 550ish rifle more like the original, wacky mags included.

Maybe if I wait even longer they will release a straight-up semiauto 550 and I will have no choice but to purchase one.

I certainly like the looks of it. IIRC they are selling it exclusively through CDNN.

There is a review out there that breaks down the 'cheats' that keep this from being a real 551, so I guess the purists won't be satisfied.

At this point I'd still be most interested in the 556 Classic Patrol, just because it's the only one I've held that wasn't front-heavy.
 
Tough to say until some folks buy them, shoot them, and talk about it. I read the initial run was only 250 rifles, and the fact that CDNN has them sounds more like trouble than an exclusive deal. Their whole business is blowing out stuff that somebody else couldn't sell.

But I think sticking with the original mags instead of fargling them to eat from AR magazines could make it a better bet for reliability. We'll see...

Too bad the mags are $50 a pop. That's pretty rough.
 
The version that takes AR mags has been around a long time. Maybe they have it working better by now, along with the improved looks. Check out the 556 "classic."
 
I remember back on the sig forum when the company ask for everyones input on what they wanted in what became the 556 line.....then totally disreguarded it lol. Now they are almost back to what everybody ask for the first darn time! geeeeeez :D
