Anyone out there have any info on the SIG 551 or similar SIG rifle? I've heard that they are excellent rifles and very expensive. I've been to many gun shows around the US and have never seen one anywhere. Are they even available in a semi-auto configuration?
Thanks

The 550 and 551 are occassionally seen here in USA though the semi-automatic versions were included in the import ban. Also a while back parts kits were being sold though no receivers were available AFAIK. :(
The Sig rifles are great weapons, wish I had a couple.

The SIG 550 and 551 are LE/Government Only. Unless you have a FFL, you are SOL.

Since I'm in the Swiss Army, I have one at home. Precise, cool
mag coupling feature, useful folding stock. It
could be even used to do some bayonet fighting, but
I'm not a friend of this practice.

Controllability in full-auto is not bad, but better stay
on the 3-burst to save ammo. If you want a controllable
full-auto gun, get an AUG. Also, scoping the rifle can be
tricky and is usually quite expensive.

The main thing with that rifle is that we can't use it as
makeshift ladder anymore like the SIG 510/AMT thingie (actually,
the Stgw57 in Swiss Army). Also, the cartridge lacks
long-range punch.
