Here in Finland every gun purchase (except airguns) requires a permit that cost $ 20 and takes about a week to get. Local police can issue permits for law abiding citizens who have an "acceptable" reason for it, those reasons including hunting, target shooting, collecting, work etc., but not self-defence. In practice, if one doesn't have criminal record it is quite easy to get permit for a hunting gun, somewhat more difficult for a .22 handgun, and again somewhat more difficult for larger caliber handguns and semiauto sporter rifles.
Unlike in many other European countries, here in Finland sprays require permits also (self defence is "acceptable" reason for sprays), but as stupid as it might sound in many jurisdictions here getting a handgun permit for target shooting is easier than getting a spray permit. Another local specialty is very strict regulation of "pocket guns"; permits for small "easily concealable" handguns are very difficult to get. Full auto guns can be purchased only by state approved gun collectors.
In Finland silencers do not require permits and there is no hicap magazine ban, except for hunting with semiautos. Flash supressors, bayonet mounts, pistol grips etc. are not regulated; if one is given a permit for a semiauto sporter (and that is not given to everyone), one can buy what is called "preban" in USA, brand new. Mail order gun purchases are legal and common for permit holders, including private import from other countries.
Mussi, I have noticed that the gas rod head in my SG550 becomes very dirty when shooting, even after a small amount of rounds. Should some special treatment be given to gas rod head? Is it better to leave it unoiled after cleaning, since it is hard cromed?
