Sig 290RS, whats the score?

So I've seen these pistols for years. CDNN has them for sale right now for about $300. This is a bit of an impulses thread.

I'm not sure if there are variations of this same model. I assume there must be since it is an "RS". All I know is they look small, they are 9mm, and they are a SIG.

What's the deal? What's the score? What's the scoop?

For such a decent price should I be buying one of these great looking pistols?

I've owned two of the P290RS', they were surprisingly accurate for such a small handgun w/DAO trigger and were comfortable/easy to conceal. Trigger pull was heavy and long (no surprises there) and Galloway Precision makes a nice spring kit that really improves the trigger.
Unfortunately, though, both of mine had light strikes w/GECO FMJ (known for hard primers, even my P250's would sometimes choke on these) and occasionally w/PMC Bronze.
This caused me to lose confidence in the platform and I ended up selling them.

The RS (re-strike) is the newer models as the original models did not have this capability.

I know a few guys who have 290 RS's and they all like them quite a bit. They have been totally reliable. I also find them to be very accurate even for a smaller gun. I like the 8 shot magazines as it increases the grip length. The trigger being DAO is longer and heavier but, very smooth.

I've been kicking around getting one myself.

They are such a great value. Ive put 200 rds thru mine. No issues at all. A tad snappy but as you'd think. Built like a tank but very comfortable, really with either mag. Nice ergonomics with both mags.Trigger is exactly what others have said, a smooth, long dao. Nights sites a plus. Very carryable. It's a bit heavier than lc9, maybe 18 oz range. Not quite as smooth feel as lc9, but that's no negative, just more course grip. I would not hesitate at all to purchase if that type of gun is what you're after!

Dang that's a heck of a deal. The wife loves hers and even more so now after putting the Galloway Precision trigger in it. The stock trigger is LOOOONNNNGGGG winded, and the Galloway is Night and Day better!

I think PSA had them even cheaper.

I think the issue is that they are maybe a bit wide like 1" and a bit heavy like 20oz. I think they compare well to a Kahr PM9. Wish the compared better to the size of the P380.

Yeah PSA had a killer deal on em too. May still have. I almost bought one from Buds a while ago for like $500. Glad I didn't. It looks like they also have them in .380. I have almost bought one many times but always decided not to after feeling how thick they are at my LGS. They are also listed as VERY heavy for how small they are, still don't know where all that weight comes from. Never seen a bad review on the RS model though. I'd say to see if you can hold one in person and if you like it I would get it.

Bet they shoot more comfortable in .380 than other micro .380s due to the weight. However, if I wanted a pocket Sig in .380 I'd get the P238.

If any of you have experience with the Sig 290RS and the Ruger LC9, can you tell me how the triggers compare?

P290 much easier and smoother. The new LC9s may be a different story, (it is striker fired). The P290 is a fairly thick gun at about an inch.
If you go P290, I would suggest replacing the plastic recoil spring rod with stainless steel, (the flanged end on mine broke off even before I had a chance to fire it).
