SIG 239's take-down lever -- how true is it?

I'm on my way to pick up SIG 239, and I've heard rumors about some of these pistols having badly manufactured take-down levers. Does anybody know what the actual defect is and what are the chances, roughly, that I may encounter such problem with mine?

Never heard of it...never had a problem with mine. I'd even say that the take-down lever on my 239 is superior (more rounded and ergonomic) than the ones on my previous SIGs (225,220 and 226).

I know that early 239s were shipped with plastic guide rods, but that was never an issue, and they've switched to metal ones since anyway.

Yeah, at round 100,000 the rolling cam breaks in half! ;) Seriously, sounds like more one unsusbtantiated Web rumor. Put it in the same category as the pregnant man.

So many pistols, so little money.

Iv'e had 3 239s and still have 2. I never had this, or heard of this, problem. Don't believe bad stories about SIGs, they work and keep on working. Regards, Dennis

Never heard of that problem, and mine functions properly. The only unusual thing I can say about my 239's take down lever is that it is easier to manipulate than my other SIGs, though not by much.

I bought a 239 in .40 S&W that had a bad take-down lever and recoil spring guide from the get/go. I could not break the pistol down and had to send it back to the factory before ever shooting. The weapon was returned repaired in less than a week and was one of the most acuurate handguns I have ever owned.

I only kept it about three months as I will not keep any weapon that malfunctions with the first 1000 rounds. It's a confidence thing more than anything else. I don't buy cheap equipment and I refuse to accept anything less than stellar performance.

Sig is now putting metal guide rods in the 239 and if yours did not come with one, they will send you one free of charge. I loath polymer recoil spring guide rods and refuse buy anything with one in it.
