SIG 239 or Glock 27 ?

I am thinking about buying a sig 239 in 357 sig or 40 cal. I currently own a p226 in 9 mm,and know how good sigs are, but I would like a more compact pistol for concealed carry. Is the 239 sig much smaller than the sig 226 or will i be better off going to something like a glock model 27. I have never owned a glock and have always been a little bit skidish of them since it is not an all metal gun.I have talked to some people and they said you either love or hate a glock. I realize the glock might be thicker in the width of the slide but it seems to be compact as far as the heighth and length.Part of me says try a glock but I know I probably would not go wrong with the SIG. Anyone got any pros and cons that might help me out?

BIGR, I have been very happy with my G27.
Do you have a range near where you can rent
the pistols in question?

If you buy a Glock, you may want to sell all of your Sigs to get more Glocks! Just kidding. Anyway, the G27 offers more firepower in a smaller package. The plastic frame is more durable than the aluminum, but you will never wear your Sigs out, just, well, you know... IMO the Glocks are pretty much superior to anything out there, and I didn't use to like them.

Greetings To All; As many of you already know
I prefer Sig's to just about anything!!! :D
Well, not exactly; but as far as guns are
concerned that is a true statement. But, I
must admit when carrying concealed here lately; I always reach for the Glock 27;
I guess because of it's light weight, compactness, and tennifer finish? At any
rate, if I had to choose only one of the
aforementioned guns; it would have to be the
Glock 27!!! :)

I had both--now I carry a Kahr MK9.

Personal preferences prevailed--all 3 are great to have. Found the Glock a little too thick and the 239 was fine, but a someone made too rich an offer for it.

I have both and prefer the 239, it is my everyday gun. The 239 feels better in my hand and I shoot it better. You can't go wrong with either one. If you can I would say buy both.

I have heard that SIGs don't stand up as well as Glocks in heavy CCW use. Supposedly the finish wears off easier and they start to rust. I have no first-hand experience, however.

The Glock 27 will hold 9+1 rounds, or 10+1 with a Pearce grip extension (for your pinky). Its finish is very durable, and it holds up better to poor conditions. It's an extremely durable little gun.

I think the 239 only holds 8+1 rounds? Just something to consider.

I have a Glock 27, but am considering buying a 239 just 'cause it's such a nice little package.

Yes, buy both!
I had a G27, bought a P239 in .40 2 yrs ago. The P239 is EXTREMELY accurate, so I sold the G27 and my G23. However, I'm going to put a .40 S&W on my CCW; so I'm picking up my new G27 Friday with night sights. Already bought the Pierce extenders. It'll be carried, at times, with a Fobus holster -- they'll be out in a couple of months for the new G27 (do not buy the old model).
Anyway, again I'll have both; and this time, I'll keep both.
If you buy the Sig P239, I suggest getting the Hogue finger groove grips which enhances the feel 100 %.
My other CCW carry is my P232 in .380 for pocket travel.

I like my glocks but the 239 is easier to conceal than the glock 27 due to it beig thinner. It is also easier to shoot because it has enough handle for the whole hand.

Go with the Glock and the Pierce extensions.
If you decide to get a bigger pistol, you can
then get a Model 22 or 35, and use those mags
in your 27.

On a 239, the only parts you could rust under normal conditions would be the grip screws. The slide is stainless steel and the frame is aluminum. Ditto for the P229 and more recent P226s.

Now, if you take up scuba diving and want to carry underwater, the internal parts would probably rust pretty quickly... <g>

I went thru the same dilemma a couple/three years ago, and wound up with the Glock. Haven't looked back once - it's a fine pistol. Capacity, price, Austrian (as opposed to USA) manufacture, and velocity all played a role in the decision.

The Glock's polygonal rifling will give you a little more velocity, which is important if you go with the .357 Sig. If you decide to go with the .357 Sig round, get the Glock 33 instead of going for an aftermarket bbl for your 27 - that way you'll have the Glock bbl rifling where it counts.

FWIW, I find the 33 to be a very nice little pistol. I have found that it's pretty chunky for concealment without a jacket ("Hey, what's that tumor on your butt?!"). The problem isn't just the thickness of the slide , though, since the frame is actually thicker. The whole piece is pretty substantial for such a small weapon. It's easy to shoot, tho, and you can't beat the power for the size. For summertime CCW, tho, you'd probably do better with an Ti S&W.

Either way, you'll be pleased I bet.
cheers,
erich

Stainless steel does rust. I carried a Ruger P95 with the stainless slide, and found rust marks on it from carrying against my sweaty body. Sorry about that visual...

Stainless does rust. I saw many a stainless rifle in Valdez AK (on coast) that were rusted very badly. Stainless takes alot more time to rust than blue but it will rust. GLocks are one of the most rust proof guns because of the teffner and plastic and nickle internals. Salt water will rust almost anything and yet shark divers sometimes use glocks as protection .

"I like my glocks but the 239 is easier to conceal than the glock 27 due to it beig thinner"

The specs have a 239 at 1.2 inches, and the G27 at 1.18 inches width. Also the glock is lighter and not as tall.

The glock is also less expensive.

Go glock.

Get what fits your hand best and what balances best for you. If you're more accurate with a P239 then get one. Glocks don't work for me, but for you they may be the cat's meow.

Remember tat with quality leather such as Lou Alessi's carrying is a lot more comfortable.
