Sig 239 or 245

I'm torn between these two. I'm leaning towards the 245 because it fits my hand so perfectly and I have this near-irresistable infatuation for it. The 239, however, is a bit thinner and the calibers may be more effective given the short barrels in both. It fits my hand alright and would probably serve well. Any suggestions?

When it comes to choosing what feels good or what is sensible, I'd go with what feels good. You'll be kicking yourself if you don't. BTW, I like the 229!

I prefer the 239 in 357 sig myself and I carry one off duty. I am not a big fan of the 45 out of short barrels.

If it feel good to you go with the 245.With a 45 the bullit is allready as big as what the others expand to so the short barrel is no big thing.IT doesn't need to expand anymore.

Aw, heck, George, if that's the suggestion, he should buy both.

You've identified one of the issues: many .45 loads do not do as well out of a short barrel, but load selection can take care of that.

What I don't like about the P245 is that (like the Glock 36) too much of the grip is actually mag extension. This is less true of the P239. I tried some speed reloads in a P245 and almost literally took meat off my little finger -- very painful. Make sure you take the mag extension and reloads into account!

Yeah - but only the 245 is in .45 and is the child of the mighty P220. Frankly - I dont see the problem... this is a no brainer!
Of course the .45!

Now - if you factor in other situational details that my change things - but as it stands... the P245 is the way to go.
I shot one using Rem +P 185 gr JHPs... SWEET and right on the money.

P239...the p245 is not that small. 357sig rocks even in a short barrel. I will eventually have to get the p239, but I have the P229 to keep me patient. I wish they would make a 357sig that looked like the 232 with a double stack mag...oops wrong area...

Hi, buzz_knox. A few questions. Is this going to be for home defense (get the P245) or for concealed carry? If for concealed carry, will the weather and your mode of dress allow you to comfortablily carry the P245 well concealed? If so, get the P245. Otherwise, get the P239. Or, like JNewell said, get both!

Just to share with you a little bit from my personal experience, I bought a 4513TSW {pre-agreement} which I was hoping to use for concealed carry, but due to weather conditions and how I normally dress a majority of the time, it created too much of a bulge which I felt uncomfortable with. I then bought a 3913TSW and even though it's only about half an inch smaller in length & height, that half an inch made all of the difference in the world. When I'm not carrying the MK9, it's the 3913TSW that rides on my hip -- even though I prefer the 4513TSW as it fits my hand better and I feel better armed with a .45ACP than a 9mm but you always can't have everything that you want and you have to look at the trade-offs.

At least the P239 comes in a few different flavors (9mm, .357SIG & .40S&W), if you decide to go that way.

I have a P245 and I love it. The pistol fits my hand soo well...As far as the 45 expansion, no need to worry. The bullets big enough but, if you are that worried about expansion, shoot a smaller faster load. Can't go wrong with a 45 ;)Freezin1

Thanks for the advice, guys (used in the non-gender oriented way). I've already got and carry a 229 so either weapon will be easy to carry (the 239 being slimmer and the 245 being shorter in height - amazing how that butt sticks out). I think I'd have to go with the 245 to begin with and get the 239 later. That 245 is just too sweet. With regular 230 grain loads, it might not be as powerful, but 230 gr JHP at 800 fps is nothing to sneeze at.

Buzz, I don't remember the numbers, but the 185 +P and maybe the 200 gr loads have better penetration and expansion from leetle barrels like the P245's, if I recall correctly. In any case, it's probably all incremental gain, and certainly secondary to issues like reliable feeding (and good shot placement! <g> ).

I use 200 +Ps in my Glock 30. However, I'm getting away from them because of wear and tear issues and the fact that, frankly, they sting a bit. Takes away from controllability.
