Sig 239 9mm v. CZ PCR

I know all of the objective information about these two guns but do not have the opportunity to shoot them before I buy. What are the opinions of the members regarding these two guns. Mainly will be for fun but possible carry sometime in the future.

I have no experience with the CZ, but I LOVE my 239! I bought it for the concealability factor, but I rarely shoot my other 9 (Beretta) anymore - the SIG is just too accurate, has an excellent trigger, and is too fun to shoot. This is the gun that I hate to put down. It's also extremely easy to conceal, and quite comfortable to carry. IMO, you can't go wrong with the SIG!

I'm a huge Sig fan and I usually carry a P239 in 9mm. Having said that, try one first. It will be extremely accurate and reliable, but I find the ergonomics of the 239 don't suit me as well as other Sigs.

CZ PCR

For me, the CZ PCR was the superior choice compared to the 239 or even the 225. I shot the 239 at my range and didn't like the grip (to thin and small for me and muzzle flip was excessive. Although larger, the 225 is a much better Sig design. The PCR fits my hand perfectly, is well balanced and holds 10 + 1, instead of 8 +1. It also has the decocker in a place where it is easy (for me) to operate.

I've had a P-239, and have shot a PCR,and much prefer the PCR.

But that's probably because I have a large hand, the the P-239 has a small grip and tended to slip around a bit -- even with larger Hogue Grips.

(Then, too, the PCR has a larger capacity mag...)

They're both good guns; try them both, if you can... Guns are very personal things. What works for one person won't necessarily work for another.

I have to say the pcr. The accuracy of the cz is outstanding plus if desired, cz still has factory 15 rd mags for the cz 75 std. They will fit and function in the pcr with only a slight over-hang at the bottom. The main advantage for the sig is a rather huge selection of leather while the pcr is limited.

Owning both, I can tell you it's a tough call. Both are very fine pistols, having excellent accuracy and reliability. The 239's strength lies in its concealability. It is a good bit smaller and flatter than the CZ. However, I'd have to say the PCR (while not large by any means), is the more versatile of the two. It's small enough for most CCW scenarios, yet holds 10 in the mag --- or 13, if you're lucky enough to find a preban compact mag.

And, as mentioned previously, it does accept fullsize 75B model 15rd mags without a problem.

Also, like some, the 239's grip is not a perfect fit for me. While the PCR's is much more natural. But that's just personal preference. Your best bet is to handle and examine both pistols. There is no wrong choice to be made. Either pistol will do the job well.

Take care. Marko

I have never tried that particular CZ model, but I have a Sig P239 in 9mm. I really like the Sig P239...it is light weight enough for carry, but at the same time large that it "shoots" like a full size gun. I think the only way that you can determine what is best for you though is to try both out if possible. ;)

I don't have a PCR, nor have I ever handled one, so I can't comment on that. I do have a P239 in .40. Like all guns, there are things that I like about it and things that I don't like about it. For me, the P239 doesn't quite work. It might for you.

Things I like:

- reliable
- accurate
- mild recoil
- decent trigger
- safe and easy field stripping procedure

Things I don't like:

- high bore axis increases muzzle flip
- gun feels top heavy
- gun is very tall between top of slide and bottom of frame (where the trigger guard meets the frame).
- I don't like DA/SA (this is a religious issue
- gun is relatively large, significantly bigger than my Kahr K40
- the slide release is in an unusual location. I'm used to the more standard location.

The P239 is a fine gun, it just doesn't quite work for me. It might for you.

Two good reasons to buy the P239...

1. It's a SIG, and they are the best out-of-the-box combat pistols made;

2. It's a much more concealable package with lots of accessories, including leather, already available.

The PCR, however, is an excellent pistol for the money; you should be able to find one for $50-100 less than the P239. Both pistols are exceptionally accurate; the ergonomics edge, OOTB, goes to the PCR.

You can make the P239 fit larger hands/longer fingers by adding a set of Hougue grips. Mine got a pair of coco bolo's and that fixed the narrow grip/square frontstrap issue for me while adding very little to the width.

One more thing...if you like a little more [or a lot more ] horsepower in a pistol, consider getting the P239 in .357 SIG...a great package.
