SIG 232 or Sig 239 ?

I was looking for a concealable pistol to carry in the summer in a fanny pack or ankle holster.I know a fanny pack can attract alot of attention and therefore I would opt most of the time for a ankle or other type holster. According to the specs on the 2 pistols I have found these 2 pistols are real similar in size except the 239 in 9mm does have more height and weight.A glock has crossed my mind but it is hard to get away from the sigs. I would appreciate any help with this and if anyone knows of any other quality pistol of similar size or smaller in .380 or 9mm that can be trusted when the going gets tough let me know.

I would go for the P239 in 9mm over the .380 unless the weight factor is really a problem. Another gun you could look at is the Kahr, it's small but a bit heavy. Don't neglect a Glock as a possibility because it may be what you're looking for.

Keep in mind that the 232 has a European mag release and no slide release. Personally, I just can't get use to those things.

In my honest opinion, a SIG doesn't fit your needs very well. The 232 is the best concealment pistol SIG makes -- if you can get past the items listed above.

I believe I have the second- or third-best concealment SIG -- the 225. The 239 being the other option.

But I propose the question: "Do I/you want to carry a 225 or 239 on your ankle?" Granted, I'm a lightly built 5'11", so I would answer no. It would be just too big and heavy. I don't want to look like the DEA agents in the comedy "Get Shorty."

If I had to go for ankle carry, Glocks (even though I have no intention of ever owning one) and Kahrs (damned Moonies) seem like better candidates.

Please remember: I'm not against SIGs! Just against SIGs for ankle carry. Good luck with your choice.

The 239 can be had in 9, .40, and .357 SIG.
Thats a lot of horsepower for a compact blaster. Thats fight stopping power.
The .380? To me - that caliber is no longer an option.

Of the two, I'd go with the 239. Like my learned colleague, I don't like the mag release. I also find that the gun is a little big for what it is (I much prefer the PPK for a small .380).

However, if you're going to carry in an ankle holster (which I'm a big fan of, in fact, I'm wearing one right now), I wouldn't choose any of the above. My recommendations for ankle carry are a J-frame smith (like my titanium 342ti or the .357 model 60 I'm wearing right now), a PPK, a Kel-Tec (I just bought mine, but haven't shot it yet), or something of the like. As far as ankle holsters go, size does matter!!!

A 232 would be my choice under your circumstances. Load it with Speer 90 grain hollow points and you're ready to go. Ok, it won't take down a 300 pound man jacked on crack. But if you point a gun in his face, I bet he won't be laughing. By the way, it's placement that's important anyway. Aim for the head. And he's dead.

If you get a P232 or P239 make sure to get it with night sights. You’ll spend an extra $60 but in the long run this is much cheaper than getting them installed later due to the design of the front sight.

Tecolote, I think your comment about the front sight applies only to the P230/232 -- the P239 has standard dovetailed sights front and rear. I'm not wild about the SIG factory night sights, which have no white rings/outlines and make it slower for me to pick up the front sight in daylight.

JNewell,

Thanks for calling my bad. I meant to type "P230 or P232."
