I was thinking of buying one for my wife. $400 with factory night sights. Oh, yea it's stainless and N.I.B. She has a Colt Pony but I retired it for her because it is 100% new and still a virgin. She has a .22 mag revolver that she likes, but I think its time to move up. Any comments on this little gun would be apprieciated!

OK...where the heck did you find a deal like that???...if you don't get that Sig, then please pass along the establishment I need to contact...that, my friend, is a smoking deal...

SORRY!!!!!!!!!!
I typed the wrong price for the right gun!!
Lets try $460!!! I typed the price for the non night sight pistol. I work in a gunshop.
( get em at cost) Good thing they don't have me selling them! We'd be out of business quick! I'll stick to gunsmithing!

I'm green with envy. Lowest price I've seen was %475 for ss no night sights. Of course by the time I got to the shop it was gone. Get it, you won't regret one bit.

still...that ain't bad...I gotta get a job in a gun store :D...in answer to your original question, I don't have any hands-on experience, but I challenge you to find anyone that has something bad to say about that pistol...besides it being a little bit large for it's catagory...

I bought a stainless SIG P232 for my dad a few years ago. Great gun, 100% reliable, good sights, and the most accurate out-of-the-box semi auto I've ever seen - 1.5" groups off a rest at 25 yds. How many did that guy have in stock?

Oh yeah, about your wife's Colt Pony.... no self defence gun should be "100% new." That's scarry. They should be shot - ALOT and often. How else can you be sure it works and she knows how to use it? -- Kernel

I have a blued 232, about 1k rnds thru it. It has been 100% reliable, very accurate, easy to maintain. As has been pointed out, it is a bit big as .380s go, and because of it's light weight (the blued model has an alloy frame vs all steel for the stainless) there is a bit of muzzle flip, though no where near as bad as a PPK/S. That's a great deal, BTW. Enjoy! M2

I bought my girlfriend a blued 232 for about that price. Works great, althought she's not all that accurate with it, but that's more of a user problem than the gun. I took
the gun from her at the range and emptied the clip into the head of a small sihoulette, so I know it's not the gun. She did manage to get some junk all over the grips too. *sigh* Women.

I have one I bought for backpacking. It is the all stainless SL. Great gun. Now if i could just find some hogue grips for it. It is my gun(after the RED RYDER of course)

I just bought one for my daughter recently.
She loves it!
We took to the range to break it in, put about 300 rds., assorted ammo, through it with no problems.
Accuracy was excellent.

Yes, the Hogue P230 grips are the ones for the P232. I've got them, and they are worth all of the 20 bucks. Hell, they're worth 50 bucks.

Great gun. I've fed it USA, Am. Eagle, Win Silvertips, PMC, Hydra-Shok PD, Win SXT, Sellier & Bellot, Glaser, Wolf. Eats 'em all like a Hog!

The muzzle flip, in my experience, went away after around 300-400 rounds (through my learning to handle it).

The cheapest that I've ever seen one was a blued alloy model (standard sights), NIB for $300 in Gun List a couple of years ago. I would go to the newstand and see if there are any for sale in "Gun List" to see what the lower end of the retail market is selling them for. Either way, I don't think you would be paying too much for the gun as is. It will end up being a useful airloom for your kids/grandkids long after you and your wife go home for good.

I like the weapon. If you think she might want something lighter for the purse, you might consider the alloy model. Only thing that I can say negative about it is that my sweetheart shot a couple of magazines through one at a range during a shop show once. The SIG rep stoked it w/factory ammo and supervised. It kept on malfunctioning. They thought she was limp wristing it, but I watched and she used a solid two hand hold after the first mag-full. It fired and then I do not think it went into battery fully. I don't quite remember the details. We were surprised since it has such a reputation for reliability. I wouldn't reconsider just because of this one bad experience though.

Has anyone else experienced failures w/the 230/232? I am curious as to the reason.

BTW, I think that this is the best looking out of box handgun ever made. It would be hard to find jewelery as per-ty.

The only problem I've had is that it has failed to lock the slide open when the mag goes empty on eight occasions.

Mine is relatively new, with 1,008 rounds through it. I wanted to break it in thoroughly before calling SIG, which I'll do shortly.

SIG Sauers don't need break in periods. They should work right out of the box. Check your magazine springs. One easy way is to insert an empty mag into an unloaded pistol and work the slide. If the slide stays open all the time with all mags then likely they're in working order. Failure for the slide to stay open after the last round, especially if inconsistent, is usually operator induced. Next time it happens, keep your grip firm, and safely examine how you're holding the pistol. You might find that your thumb rode up onto the slide lock lever thus preventing it from functioning correctly.

I am a big Sig fan. I've had a few Sig 380's to go along with my P239 .40. Recently bought a blue P232 and put Hogue wood grips on it. As stated wish it were just a bit smaller like a PPK. I carry it sometimes with an Uncle Mikes fanny pack attached to my belt, but would prefer a pocket carrying pisol, and the Sig is just a little big. After I buy another PPK; I'll probably end up selling the PPK and returning to my reliable 232.

Thanks for the replies!
I think I'm gonna order that gun Sat. The actual price is $421.99+6% Pa. sales tax, and that damn UPS next day shipping that costs about $10.00-$15.00. I should be able to pick it up for..... like I said, about $460.OH, and Kernel, That Colt Pony was bought for my wife as a Christmas gift. I no sooner got it wrapped, when Colt made thier production announcement to the media. I decided to "retire" the gun while it was brand new. I then went back to our shop and ordered a few other Colts that were going to be discontinued...A Mustang ( I have a custom MUST. but I wanted a new one), A Mag. carry, A Python, and A .380 GOVT. Now I have most of the Colt line-up for display purposes. (those bastards!!!) My wifes carry gun is a Taurus 941ul. But were gonna go with a Sig! She dosen't like my 1911's. We both shoot every week! Thanks again guys!!!

CJB:

I bought my wife a P-232 a few years back. My own carry gun is a P-230. (Virtually the same gun). Paid $485 each back when .380's were your only choice for guns in this size.

Would that be BK? (Before Kahr, Kel-Tec...)

My wife loves hers. The recoil is a bit snappy though, so consider carefully if your wife is recoil sensitive.

I carry mine with Cor-Bon 90gr +P's for about 220 FPE. Very dependable in this gun.

As for accuracy...

I recently took my P-230 down to the gun club and ran the PPC course. When in practice, I normally score around 570 with a stock 6" S&W M-686. Being a bit out of practice, I scored 515 with the SIG. I'd have done better, but I couldn't account for two bullets. Probably flyers. The pattern on both targets was pretty nice though. Well grouped and slightly right of POA. I was impressed, as were a few of the guys at the range.

I definately feel confident with this choice for my CCW gun.

A lot of people have talked about the P232 being their wife's carry gun. Anyone here like this as a man's concealed carry gun? Or is the caliber too small for most tastes?
