Sig 229 vs. 239

What makes the 239 so much cheaper? How did Sig cut costs and how does the 239 compare in terms of durability, reliability and accuracy?
Thanks, Ed

I don't know why the P239 should be less expensive. There is nothing obvious about its construction that differs. It may be a loss-leader to introduce people to SIGs, or it may have been designed to be more efficient to produce -- I don't know. I do know that I have never had a problem with one, nor heard of anyone shooting one apart, and that includes the .40s and .357s. I don't think durability or quality are an issue here.

It's the first (and only ?) SIG to be made entirely in the USA - Exeter, NH. Maybe that has something to do with it. I agree with JNewell the price difference is not an indicator of quality.

Yes they do. But unlike the 226 and 229 the .40 and .357 rounds are not interchangeable in the 239 magazine. You need separate mags if you change out the barrels.
