SIG 229 or Glock 19?

I was in my favorite gun shop checking to see if they had any used Glock 19's. While I was there another guy came in and wanted to look at SIG's. I checked the SIG's out as well. The P229 in 9mm seems like a good gun, it is heavier than a Glock 19 but almost the same size. Anyone have any experience with these two? Which one do you prefer and why?

I have had both and like both, but I prefer the G19. I could never get used to the Sig's double-action first trigger pull. The G19 also fits my hand better.

It's all a matter of which one fits you better. My vote goes to the Glock for personal preferences, but I would not reject the Sig if someone gave it to me.

I agree with etron. The 228 is a better 9mm sig. The 229 is a better .40 platform. Also, if you're going 229, you can get 13+1 rounds of 9mm, or 12+1 rounds of .40. For one round, I'd get the .40.

That being said, I have a 229 and a G23. I think that the Sig shoots a little better, but the Glock is easier to carry and has a much better finish.

I have the 229 9mm and the Glock 19. I shoot the Glock better but I also shoot my Sig 239 9mm better than the 229. I think it's because the 229 has a pretty fat grip and I have small hands. I do like the SA/DA with decocker on Sigs though. I think it is personal preference since they both are fine firearms. I bought the 229 over the 228 because of the stainless slide on the 229 and the stamped sheet metal slide on the 228. Honestly I could not choose one over the other if I had too! That's the Glock or the Sig I mean in 9mm. If I shot 40cal or above it would be the Sig for sure but in 9mm it's a coin toss.

Both are fine weapons and will serve any purpose that you may have nicely.

Both are accurate and reliable, but I tip my hat towards the Glock for a carry weapon that will have to deal with sweat and the occasional bump. I can deal with a scratch or ding on a polymer frame, but a scratch on an alloy frame drives me nuts! A "plastic" gun also seems to be affected less by the elements. A cold or hot metal weapon that was left in the car a bit can make life interesting when you strap it back on. Magazines also seem to be a bit cheaper for the Glocks and aftermarket parts are more readily available.

Either way..they are fine weapons. I enjoy my Glocks for their simplicity and durability. I enjoy my other weapons when I just want to carry something different. Plus there is no noise and feeling that is quite like a finely made pistol chambering a round. It's just "different" in a good sort of way, like a fine watch. Digitals are extemely reliable, but sometimes you enjoy a finely made mechanical watch.

Good Shooting

I have both a Sig 229 .40, and a G19c. Both guns are great. I really like my Sig, but the Glock has performed just as well. I highly recommend both guns. Neither has any real drawbacks or regrets.

I really like my Glock 19 but I have never shot a Model P229. I own a Model P228 and it is as good as it comes. My advice is to rent both, shoot both, and buy the one that feels best and shoots best in your hand. Regards, Richard

No matter if you want the 9mm or not the 229 is the BETTER gun as it is made with a stainless slide that is more durable and rust resistant.

I have both the 228 & the 19, and I think these are two of the best 9mm's you can buy. They just don't get much better than these two. I would have a difficult time choosing just one.
I think if I had to make a choice, it would be the 19, due in part to the 2 hi-caps that I have for this gun, and the lighter weight.
I shoot them both equally as well, and I also happen to be one of those people that like Glocks trigger.
Glocks will usually be $150 or so cheaper (at least in my area), if that's any consideration.
I also agree, if your going with a 9mm Sig, go with the 228, or 225 instead of the 229, as you will save a couple of ounces off the weight of the slide.

I own a G19, and used to own a Sig P239 (sold it to buy the Glock).

You're talking about two of the best handgun platform available, so it comes down to what fits you better. Like Richard said, take a trip to the range and rent both (any range worth going to will have them both, IMO). Put some lead down range and see what works. In my experience, one of them WILL fit and feel better. If it doesn't, GET BOTH! :D

But you're going to get a GREAT gun either way you go....

I would go with the sig. I have both a sig p245 and a glock30. The Glock was broken when i got it so i still have not been able to shoot it. However, I have shot my friends Glock 21. Both of my guns are the compact model. The Glock holds more rounds and fits in my hand a little better (only after i got some clip extenders). However, the Sig shoots better and is more accurate. I also love the decocker on my Sig. I like to keep my bedside, glove box or carry gun chambered but i worry about it being clocked. One of the reasons i worry about this is because it is some much easier to pull the triger when the gun is cocker. Since you can have the sig chambered and not cocked that is not a worry anymore.

Have fun with your new gun and if you are anything like me (or most gun buffs) you will end up with them both.

The SIG is better looking and has better ergonomics. The Glock is more robust, lighter, holds more rounds, and has a much more resistant finish. Both are accurate, although I can shoot a SIG a bit better than a Glock. The P228 would be an even better choice in 9mm, since the old folded carbon steel slide does not make the P228 as top-heavy as the milled stainless slide does the P229.

For a carry gun, I'd take the G19, although you'd certainly be well armed with a P229 as well. I like the durability of the Glock, and the polymer frame can handle temperature changes much better. It doesn't get as cold or hot as a metal-framed gun, and Glocks don't sweat when they're transitioned from cold into warm environments.

You really cant go wrong with either one...Both guns are pretty damn sweet...I say buy whichever one feels best in your hands...If you can afford it....Buy both !! :D
