Sig 229 info

Just put in a purchase order for a .40sw P229. Now I have to wait. How would I go about finding an all stainless steel model and is it and the two tone more expensive than the black model. Also is the Nitron finish on the black the best Sig has and how would I know it's Nitron if I order it. Is there a serial # available to indicate when Sig began using Nitron? Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a basic black 229. I looked at a beautiful barely used chromed model with 2 chromed 12 round mags and a lasermax for 900, but it was an aftermarket chroming job. I don't think they make a stainless or chrome model. They do have the two-tone, which I believe is more cash than the black one. Finally, I guess you could buy a stainless 229 compensated model and take off the compensator. More money, but sure!

I have the P229S, the compensator is not removable (other than for cleaning purpose). The P220S has the option of firing without the compensator but not the P229S.

:D :D :D

The only all-SS model is the P229 Sport, which has a price that will probably take your breath away. It's reallly an entirely different pistol. Check out www.sigarms.com/sport_pistols.htm The 2000 print catalog listed an all-bright regular P229 is aluminum/SS, more expensive than a regular P229 (I think), and nearly impossible to find. It's not on the website, but I have seen a few for sale.

To find them, have your dealer check with the wholesaler or try either one of the big dealers (via interstate FFL) or web auction sites.

Nitron is getting extremely good reviews for durability. I believe that the stock # on the box will indicate the finish (the stock #s for "blued" pistols have a "B," the K-Kote pistols had a "K," etc., so maybe there's an "N" in the code?). I doubt that anyone knows (or would tell us if they knew) where the serial number started, especially because there are several other finishes that are either current or have recently been discontinued.

I agree with thequickad. Get the 229sport. Great gun, exceptionally accurate and easy to shoot. I think mine is great.

P229 Sport and 357 SIG, Perfection!

My 229 has a B in the stock number and it is the Nitron finish. The only other options are the K-kote and the 2-tone.

Hmm,I hadn't really considered the 229 Sport for some reason. Should check it out though. I handled the 229 today and was I surprised. I know it's an ounce more than the 228 but it actually felt lighter and better balanced. Must be Sig fever! I was thinking about SS 'cuz I thought wood grips would look better with stainless but I may just go with the black nitron. A Sig has it's own mystique and is perfect as it is.
Thanks,
Ronin

I hear from my dealer, who ordered a few satin stainless 229s, that SIG has not shipped them. He ordered them almost a year ago. If you must have a full silver SIG, 220s and 228s were made in full factory "nickle" in the early 90's. 220s are very rare, but beautiful. Not the most practical tool, but an elegant companion.

Sig p229 in stainless....By far the best looking production gun on earth. Its just so happens it could possibly be the best built and most accurate as well.
