First of all I picked up my LNIB 228 yesterday. I am taking it the range tomorrow and I can't wait! Now the Mak Question. Does anyone of a Place in or around Orlando fl that I can handle one. I am interested in them BUT I want to make sure the gun fits in my hand well. Thanks guys

Cobraman,
Orlando and Lakeland have the BEST gun shows in Florida! There should be an Orlando show coming up soon, and I'm sure that there will be quite a few Maks there. I just looked up gunshows on the Shotgun News website and they have a Lakeland show on June 10 - 11.

FWIW, I'd look for either the NIB milsurp Bulgarian Maks or the East German Maks. If you are unsure, ask around and you'll find quite a few. I was offered one of the Bulgie NIB mulsurp Maks for $145 last weekend in Ft. Myers. The East Germans go for a bit more.

Thanks Gino good idea. Ft Myers huh. My girlfriend's parents live in Naples. I hope I never have to make the drive from O town to Naples again.

If it doesn't fit your hand, then a set of Pearce grips will definitely help. These make the grip diameter roughly that of a 1911 or K-frame. Anyhow, the standard grips have to go. Check Makarov.com for more info.

Cole distributing has 95-98% EG makarovs for $139. Dennis Kroh at Empire Arms in Ormond Beach has'em for $200, but they should be very nice.

Hey cobraman, drop me an e-mail and I'll meet you over at East Orange Shooters Den and you can shoot my Mak and see how you like it. Warning though--you'll be hooked!

B SHIPLEY makes an important point. The Pearce grips improve the feel of the Mak tremendously. I owned the Pearce grips before I even received my Mak. What this means is that you can't tell how it will fit your hand by handling a stock Mak. The Pearce grips change the feel considerably. To me the change is a dramatic improvement but those with small hands may not agree. The Pearce grips are a little thicker than the stock grips. So...you've got to handle a Mak with the Pearce grips. To me the appeal of the Mak goes well beyond the feel. I like the way it feels and sounds when I shoot it. I like its character, its mystique. None of my friends have Maks. I'm the only one on my block. Obviously these are very subjective feelings, not universal ones. Not everyone likes these somewhat crude, mass produced blow-backs with lots of take-up in the trigger and microscopic sights. But I do! Frank
