I have a 227 Sig carry its a great gun but I have medium hands so it is hard to get control of the gun in my hands so I was thinking of trading it in for a 226 can anybody help me with this do I go da\only or da\sa 9mm or 40 cal thank you

I have a P226, it had E2 grip, and I hated it, because wasn't better than holding a revolver. I put a Hogue grip an it, and that's a very big improvement.
Maybe try it first in a store or....(?)

Now all 3 of my SIG has the same grip, and all .40 cal.

I have a p239 40 cal da/sa recovery love that gun maybe I should try hoe grips on thr p227 first before I trade it but still want a p226

Note, I haven't held the P227, but changing to a P226 may not be the answer to controlling the P227. Is it the grip dimensions or the .45ACP caliber? The P226 has many models and each model could feel a bit different.

Also, the trigger types available are complicate matters, too. I may have missed an option, but there are:

DA/SA
DAK
short trigger
standard trigger
SRT (short reset trigger) mechanism
E2 grips
regular/standard grips of various designs/material
9mm, .40, or .357SIG.

But all this may not mean a person will be able to control the P226 any better than a P227. Let's not forget there are several other SIG models available.

Then the question could also be, "Why even SIG, at all?".

With time, technique, and a few thousand rounds of shooting, that P227 may begin to feel great. I hate to see a good gun turned over if not given a good chance.

I dislike the e2 grips... They mess up the feel of a 226 in many ways other than grip size.

Trigger feels different.
Recoil is different.

So is it the round or the grip size, maybe a combination.

If the grip size is the same, then a 9mm might help, might not.

It's not the caliber or recoil its the feel of the grip only. It feels like I can't get my hands around it right like it just feels like a big gun in med hands. Like my p320 now that's a big gun but I can get my hands comfortable around it and that's a dubble stack 17 round

I had a 220 for a while, couldn't get used to the higher bore and hard DA pull.

May I suggest a CZ P01, despite it being 9mm?

The grip is smaller on the P239, but then you are limited in the ammo number(s).
I have 2 of them, they are super, but the CZ is much more super.

Easily my favorite metal frame DA/SA pistol is the SIG P226.

I put the SIG aluminum grips on it and it is spectacular for me, thinner than plastic grips and much better grip. The G10 grips are great too:

If you need something that can be better customized to the shooters hand then check out HK. The P30/P30L for hammer fired and the VP9 for striker fired. Each come with changeable backstraps and palm inserts.

Have you tried the P220? I believe the grip is thinner and you only loose two rounds of capacity. I concur with the earlier post about the thinner SIG aluminum grips which I installed on my P220 Carry.

I am a dissenting voice when it comes to folks not liking E2 grips: I love them.

You do change out the hammer strut during the E2 changeover, which has a slight effect on the trigger pull. Honestly, I didn't really notice any real difference, and shoot the handgun better with the E2s on due to the smaller overall diameter and the aggressive texturing. Especially on rapid fire, the E2s do really well for me.

They are dramatically thinner, and allow for a much deeper & surer grip of the handgun for me. Might be helpful to you. A set of $50 grips are a much cheaper investment than changing to a new handgun.

I'm also a fan of the E2 grip-and I have fairly large hands. It's interesting to me that I originally bought a SIG Model 220 Carry, mostly because it was a single-stack .45 ACP pistol and I thought it would make for a better carry concealed weapon. And then I handled a Model 227 (which fits all holsters made for the Model 220) and I was surprised at how much more I preferred it to the 220 in terms of how it felt and handled for me; so much so that I sold the Model 220 and got a Model 227. Having an extra two rounds on board was icing on the cake.

Is there a difference in the circumference of the grips between the 227 and 226?

I have smallish hands... Shorter fingers, and I have no issues with the 226. Even my fiance likes the 226, one of her favorite pistols.

Well went to the range yesterday I figured out how to handle my p227 with out thinking about it I was dead on I'm keeping this gun very accurate pistol I love it
