Sig 226 vs. Glock 34

I am looking strictly for a pure target 9mm pistol. I want to spend 550-700, and I will NOT use it for home or self-defense. I am already have a Kimber .45 for CCW and home.
I am considering a sig 226 or a glock 34. They are about the same price in my area. I want to know which is more accurate and which one is more durable/reliable? I may use the gun to shoot some IDPA, etc. What do you think?

Either gun will work in IDPA. If you buy the SIG Sauer P226 Sport Stock Pistol this gun has a SS frame vs Alloy. Heres a press release for the gun.

Dont know about the price range. I would suggest you contact SIG. I was only pointing out the frame since I dont really worry that much about price in this situation because usually the spead between Stainless and other materialsl tends to be about $100.00 more or less.
 
Huh, happen to have both. Both seem to shoot the same size groups from my hands out to 25 yds. I do prefer the feel of the grip on the P226 than the G34, especially with stock stocks. The longer sight radius of the G34 does seem to help it quit a bit at 40 yds or more, although I've never tried shooting the P226 that far. The G34's rear sight, like most OE adjustable rear sighted Glocks, doesn't seem to hold up well (I've read on this and other forums). I haven't had any problems so far but the gun does have no more than 200 rounds though it. I do also prefer the trigger feel of the SIG over the Glock's.
 
I also shoot both the 226 and g34. Very tough choice. My only issue when switching between the two is getting used to the double stack grip on the 226 after using the G34. Aside from that, and their obvious differences between hammer and striker fired, both are good imho.

Both are incredibly accurate for me. I use the 226 in IPSC and am considering trying the G34 as well. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. For IDPA, I use what I carry which is the SIG225.

Durability, well, both are good in that respect. For the SIG, don't get it blued, go K-kote or Nitron. Glock has the tennifer which holds up well.
 
I have both pistols as well. If your going to use it for target shooting and matches, I`d get the Glock. The Glock is more forgiving triggerwise, since your not going from the DA/SA trigger, it has the same pull shot to shot. If you shoot alot, and your used to the DA trigger.. that`s cool, but you have to practice more with the Sig to stay at the same level as the Glock. You can get a higher grip on the Glock frame than the Sig.. that is a definate advantage in recoil management, for fast shot to shot stages. You can get better sights for a Glock than a Sig, In my opinion.. Heinie Slant Pro sights are excellent on Glocks, the front sight just stands out so clear, it`s hard not to miss it. I can actually see every seration while shooting it stands out so prominantly. In IDPA, it`s not a concern, but IPSC shooting..you can get mag extentons to make your 17 rd mags hold 22 rounds, they definately come in handy in some stages, I have 20 rd mags for the Sig.. but at about $120.00 each .. I don`t see many people using them. Glock hi-caps are pricey too for sure, but you get 17+ rds as opposed to the 15 for Sigs. Shooting in matches every rounds can count.... carry as many as you can.

I`m not condeming the Sig P226 in any way.. as a matter of fact it is my favorite handgun, it is my everyday carry choice during the seasons I can wear clothing to conceal it properly. The Sig is a fighting handgun thru and thru.

I recently attended a class at MISS and I used the 34. I shot almost 4000 rounds thru it in the 5 days and had 1 malfunction, and that was due to an inverted primer from my reloader. I took the pistol apart and wiped it down on day 2, and put a drop of oil on the rails and barrel.. that was it for maintenance for the week. I shoot quite a bit, around 500 rounds per week..I don`t sit and wonder about what works..I go out and see what works. The Glock 34 works just fine.

Were you at Mid-South? I am going in March and can't make up my mind between my Baer TRS or my G34. What you you recommend based on your experience? Thanks.:)

Yes, was down there the middle of Jan. If I was you..I would take the pistol your most comfortable and confident shooting. Your going to be shooting ALOT, and the 34 is probably a better choice in my opinion, for the easier recoil and more rounds in the magazine. That will come in handy when you get to shooting the man-on-man steel targets. I went thru almost 4000 rounds, but we did do a bit of extra shooting with Ross and Blacky, we shot metal mania with them, if you get the chance to shoot it..I highly recommend it.. you`ll love it. We also spent almost 1/2 the day we shot rifle on the "Crazy Indian" steel range, there was only another student and myself for the rifle class... so we shot with Ross and Jim all day by ourselfs. If I can help you anymore, let me know..I`ll be glad to do what I can. Which class are you taking?

I've owned a P99, SA 1911 9mm and a Sig P226. IMHO the G34 is far superior to all of them. It is the softest shooting 9mm I've ever shot. I've never had any FTF or FTE. Oh and the trigger pull is the same every time. You don't get that from other DA/SA pistols.

I love the Beretta 92G and my Sig P239 but the first DA shot is a bear.

I paid $569 NIB for my G34 in Indy.

YMMV but I don't think you can beat the G34.
