SIG 226 Value

What would be the expected value of a NIB, unfired, nickeled 226 with two factory hi-caps, also NIB?

TIA, Bob

I have a friend that bought one from the rangemaster at his department with one hicap for 450. The gun had maybe 100 rounds through it. HTH.

$575-600? Uh, not quite. Nickeled NIB 226s run around $700-750 without the hi-caps (dealer price for a blued one being about $600), and NIB hi-caps have a market value of around $70+ each. So, I wouldn't be surprised at an asking price of $800 or up.

If truly NIB/unfired, a good dealer price would be $650-725 for the pistol alone; NIB SIG factory P226 hicaps are going for around $70, so ~$800 would be fair and good for the package, although not a bargain; $875 would still not be bad. P226 prices seem to vary a lot in different parts of the country.

Whoops, the pistol prices above are blued. Figure maybe $75 extra for the nickled slide, depending on local prices.

JNewell, the pistol is actually unfired except at the factory, NIB, with factory signed target, original sales slip ( from nine years ago), and all other factory paperwork. It is not the nickel slide, blue bottom as now available, but is nickel colored top and bottom.

Hmm. NIB blued P226s in my area are going for $679 (one or two ten round magazines, I forget which). If dealer price is $650 and above, mebbe I better get moving! :)

As someone above said, the wholesale price on a blue 226 is around $600.00. In my area, I'd hope to get $700 MAX out of the gun. That's high caps and all. Dealer price on the stainless slide model is around $650.00

FWIW, my dealer just sold a new, blue 9mm P226 with 10-round mags for $700! Except when he gets a good deal from the wholesaler, he sells the two-tone for even more.

He sells used (police trade-in) hi-caps for $75 each.

SIGs are great guns, but that's a lot of money, even for a SIG.

Justin, by "dealer price" I meant the dealer retail price, not the price the dealer pays the distributor -- my bad, sorry! Your local price is about the same as here. I noticed an R Guns ad for .40 and .357 P226s still going at $580, which is very, very good (assuming they're new and complete) -- although I prefer the 9x19.

Bob C, a full-nickle pistol is actually quite rare. Since this is NIB/complete with nickled mags and all papers, it is probably worth a good deal more than the prices we've discussed. For example, a local dealer recently got a full-nickle P228 with box/papers/mags and it went quickly at a $250 premium to the price of a new, blue, 2x lo-cap P228. Of course, in the end it's only worth what someone will actually pay for it, and you may not be interested in paying as much as someone else. Then again, the seller may not be looking for the highest possible price. Bottom line: around here, that pistol would sell for at least $850 (a good price) and if the seller were willing to wait a bit could probably be sold for at least $100 more.

However, before someone pays that kind of money, they should call SIG and make sure that the pistol actually left the factory fully nickled. I guess in this case there isn't much doubt, since the box and receipt probably confirm it, but most nickled SIGs out there are aftermarket finishes and are not worth the premiums associated with the factory nickle pistols.

Honest opinion, for myself? I'd pass unless the seller sells it to you at a very low price. The nickle finish pistols are more collector items than shooters due to the price premium, and I don't particularly like looking over the bright slide to find the sights.

The gun in question would bring $600 tops in my area. Although there is always a Sig sucker out there that may pay more.

Thanks for the clarification John. I too am looking for a P226 in 9mm Luger. Gotta use all those P226 magazines I bought.

JTHUANG, Uhhh, if you wind up not using any of those Sig hi-caps you bought and want to get rid of some of them let me know will ya? Hint, hint :)
