Sig 226 slide issue

I have a Sig 226 9mm. Quite often the slide doesn't lock back on the last round. Sig customer service told me I was probably riding the the slide lock with my thumb but I don't think so. I am using reloads loaded with 4.1 gr of Titegroup so it's not like they are light loads. I don't have any failure to eject issues just slide not locking.

Anyone else have this issue.

I hate to do it but I agree with Sig customer service. Many people ride the slide lock/release on Sigs. Have someone watch you shoot. See if they can see you riding the slide.

Is the gun new or used? When was the last time you changed the recoil spring? My other thought is does it do it regardless of the mag? Does it do it with multiple mags or just one?

PM me I might have a solution for you.

Yep, I agree on the mag release. It's a fairly simple mechanical process for the slide to lock back. Unless your magazines are just so old and worn out that they don't push up the slide lock, then something is holding it down - probably your thumb.

I have done this a few times also - it was my thumb :)

I bought the gun new. Not sure about if it's just one or both mags, I'll keep an eye on that and have someone watch me. I have never changed the recoil spring but the gun only has maybe 5,000 rounds thru it. How oftern should I change it?

3,000 to 5,000 rounds depending on what you are shooting. I would say you are due even if it is not effecting the slide lock.

If you are interested I have modified slide lock which allows you to use a traditional thumbs forward hold. I would be willing to send it to you for the cost of shipping for you to try. If it works for you keep it send me, what you think is fair, if not sent it back.

Here is is one my P226
