sig 226 extreme

It is a Sig P226 with Hogue Grips, night sites and the SRT vs the standard trigger. If I were spending that much $$$ on a new Sig I would get the Legion.

All of the Sig 226's are very good guns..../ ....and I would expect that model to be nothing less...but personally I like the Elite Stainless better...or one of the older all stainless models ( which I have in 9mm and .40 S&W - both in the DA/SA sig trigger).

I am not a big fan of Sigs with beavertails. I sort of like the smallish one on the Legions. Plus I the Legion IMHO has "real upgrades" vs a not of the cosmetic changes that comprise a lot of the other P226 "versions".

The Elite Stainless is a nice gun too just not my Sig style. I am kind of old school about my Sigs. ;)

I don't appreciate a beaver tail (elite) on a sig. No need for it. In fact, I think it's idiotic. Never ever got a hammer or slide bite with any of my classic style Sigs. The extreme is beautiful with the G10 grips.

I have the 229 Extreme and I like it a lot. I actually do like the beaver tails and I'm considering getting either the 229 legion or enhanced elite, but i'm perfectly happy with my extreme in the mean time.

and I like the big beavertails.../ but then I'm mostly a 1911 shooter...

but that's why there are so many options out there in the Sig lineup too...

I third the notion that beavertails don't belong on SIGs. They did it purely for aesthetic purposes as it has none of the utility a beavertail is supposed to offer. To me, it is a symbol of the turn the company made toward gimmicks rather than quality a few years back. I love SIGs, but give me a classic style SIG every time.

I actually love beaver tails on SIGs. My P226 doesn't have one and my P229 does. I feel I get a much higher grip, which means I handle the already very soft recoil even better. What's wrong with even more control? Nothing at all.

The Extreme is nice. If you don't want a SIG with a beaver tail, I'd just recommend getting a normal P226 and customizing it the way you want. Sight, grips, screws, etc. If you do want a beaver tail, go for it! I love SIG beaver tails!!

In my experience the Beavertail doesn't offer a higher grip at all and is purely aesthetic. If you FEEL that you're getting a higher grip, all the more power to you. I've heard that studies have proven placebo is effective even if those taking them KNOW they're taking placebo.

Usually when using a placebo the subject is blind to it, otherwise they know it won't do anything.

I've never found the beaver tails on SIGs let me get a higher grip. The bulkiness at the top of the grip is typically the bigger problem to me as that forces the hand down regardless of the beavertail. But other people like them. We're all different. Yay!

Well, I really don't think you need a beavertail on a high-bore axis gun like a Sig P226. I sure appreciate them on the low-bore axis 1911s and the CZ 75B. The large beavertail on the Gen4 Glock 21 has worked out great. I wish the BHP and the Gen3 Glock 17 had one!

He wasn't referring to the high bore axis in terms of controlling the gun, he was referring to it in terms of a beavertail actually helping. A beavertail is meant to protect the hand from hammer and slide bite and due to the high bore on the SIG there is a lot of distance between these parts and the hand gripping the pistol so it is not an issue.

Also on my earlier placebo comment, I had heard there was a recent study on the placebo effect itself that showed that s group that were told they were taking a placebo still benefited from the effect of the placebo. I know that he point is not to be informed, just referencing something different that applied better to the point I was making.

For me, The tang on the bag of my P229 Extreme digs into the meat on the web of my hand a bit with the factory G10 grips installed. The beavertail would/does resolve this. It also reduces muzzle flip since there is more of me making contact with the gun at the pivot point.

Whether it's actually any higher, I can't say... but it IS more comfortable and faster when running the gun hard.

The E2 grip gets my hand in far enough that the tang doesn't dig into my hand so much, but I would rather run the G10 grips with beavertail than E2 without it.

I bought a 229 Extreme and was totally geeked. I had never owned a high end gun before. It was the prettiest, nicest feeling gun I have ever held. It looked and felt great.

Then I shot it.

I couldn't keep any kind of groups with the thing. The trigger was not what I was used to. I put over 1k rounds through the thing trying to figure out what I was doing wrong and never could. The worst part was I would double fire, which was freaking scary. I never could get the thing to shoot the way I wanted it to.

I know it was my fault and not the gun's but that's my experience with the Extreme. It was a $1,500 lesson that I need to stick with Glock.

QUOTE: ...The worst part was I would double fire, which was freaking scary...

Can you explain further what you mean by this? Do you mean you pulled the trigger twice and the gun fired twice (it would be more "scary" if it didn't) or do you mean the pistol "doubled" with one pull of the trigger?
