Sig 226 .40s&w barrel swap to 9mm

Not concerned about reliability ? I'd be concerned about extractor and ejector as the head diameter and perhaps the position of those parts may be different .Other factors may effect things too !

Just getting opinions.. Sig makes a swap kit Barrel/ slide/ mag...$400. I read that you can safely change the barrel to a 9.mm but you can't go from .9 to .40...Before I would try this I would check with my Gun shop...Barrel is $200...mag is $25.

Yes, my understanding is that with a semiauto you can change calibers so long as the case head is the same diameter. Firing 9MM out of a Colt 38 Super requires a new barrel and magazine, nothing more.

The reason they do a different slide is besides the barrel the extractor should be different as well. SIG also uses different height sights for 40SW as opposed to 9mm. This means your point of impact may not match your point of aim in using your current sights with the 9mm barrel. Also the barrel dimensions on your 40SW barrel are different than those for 9mm. That means you need a specific 40SW to 9mm conversion barrel rather than just a standard 9mm barrel (a number of aftermarket companies do offer those). And lastly you need a different recoil spring to go with the different caliber.

While the extra slide in the kit is an extra cost, it saves you having to swap over sights, extractor, and recoil spring every time you change calibers. By the time you add all that together separately I'm not sure you're saving much over the kit.

In the P226 and P229 pistols, you can go from .40 to .357 Sig with a simple barrel change. To change a .40 or .357 Sig to 9MM, requires a different slide unless you buy a 9MM barrel intended for that conversion. A regular Sig 9MM barrel alone won’t do it for you. Bar-Sto makes conversion barrels intended for this.
Sig sells what they call Caliber Xchange Kits which consists of a complete top end and magazine. The Xchange kits I have are complete with night sights.
The P239 is a different story. You can change a P239 to 9MM, .40 or .357 Sig with a simple barrel change. Regular Sig barrels will work for this. That’s why I consider my P239 to be one of my most versatile pistols.
I hope that helps.
