SIG 220 vs KIMBER COMPACT

I already own a SIG 220 and am thinking about an alloy framed Kimber. First of all, is the Kimber as accurate as the SIG? And I've heard that alot of people think that the alloy framed 1911's kick like a mule! Is this true? The SIG also has an alloy frame and I think the recoil is quite mild. Need some 1911 advice.

Thanks,

Mike

I do not know anything about the Sig and today was the first time I ever fired a Kimber.

Today, I took my Kimber Compact CDP II to the range for the first time. I used 100 CCI 230 FMJ rounds as my familiarization session. I was astonished at the results.

The Kimber had less "kick" than my .40 cal Walther P99QA or even my Walther PPK/S .380. But, that is not the most signifcant thing I found.

The Kimber made me a better shooter than I am! It absolutely came right out of the box and was a true as can be. My first shot hit dead center in the bullseye. The remainder of the magazine found all bullseyes or the line separating the 9 rang and the bullseye.

The remainder fo the 100 rounds landed in placements no greater than the 8 ring with the majority in the 9 and bullseye.

I have never shot this well. It has to be the Kimber. It fits my hand well, the sights are great and the trigger pull was such that I never knew just before my squeeze fired the gun.

As I said, I don't know anything about the Sig. But, I sure know how great my day at the range was today.

Good luck in your choice.

If you are used to the recoil on the Sig the Kimber should be no problem. I'd say the Kimber will have a little more felt recoil but not much. Since you are getting an alloy frame the slide length will have the most affect on recoil. The longer slide will feel like it has less recoil.

Kimber alloy frames

I have no experience with the SIG 220 but I have a lot of experience with the Kimbers. Shooting groups with the Kimber alloy frame Compact Custom I could tell very little difference between it and my all steel framed pistol. HOWEVER, when I tried some multiple target speed drills timed with a PACT timer, I saw a dramatic difference. I was significantly faster with the all steel model than with the alloy.

I thought at the time it was just because I was so familiar with the heavier pistol but have talked to several IDPA and IPSC competitors who have reported the same results.

I'm actually looking at a Stainless Pro carry if that makes a difference. The grip length is the same as a full size 1911.

I have only shot a Sig P245, it was accurate but it had a few hangups with PMC 230gr FMJs.
On the other hand I bought a Kimber Pro CDP and I absolutely love it! It feels great in my hand, it is extremely accurate and very reliable. I bought the Pro because it is has the 4" barrel and and a full size grip.
Go with the Kimber!

IMHO, being that you own a Sig-Sauer P220,
why not go for a Kimber Compact? Maybe, one
of these day's you guy's and gal's that are
1911 buffs can convert this old man back to
the gun from yester year? But, it will be
hard, cuz I LOVE my P220!!!:D :)
