Which one and why? I can't decide between a Kimber Custom Classic or a SIG 220.
Being a 1911 fan i feel strange actually thinking about purchasing a .45 that is not a 1911. Stupid huh? Also the Sig has a great double action triggger,so the first shot is not so bad. Single action is also very nice on the SIG. The 1911 fits my hand the best out of any gun i have ever owned or shot. The SIG is a very good to and would have to be the second best. Also the sig is much lighter than my 1911. Any help would be great thanks,45automan

Have owned and carried several 1911s, part of my job for years. Friend I shoot with has a sig 220. I have never seen the sig malfunction, I like the way it shoots, it does not care what ammo you feed it. And it is stone stock. For defense auto, I say go with the Sig.

Whichever fits your hand best, feels best, and whichever lets you hit most quickly and accurately. If I found something which "worked for me" better than my 1911, I'd go with it.

I own both & for shootability, & ergonomics, I prefer the 1911. Mine also has a full beavertail grip safety. Not that the Sig 220 feels bad, it's just that the 1911 handles better to me. For defense purposes, I'd probably go with the Sig 220. It is lighter, functions every single time, & is quite accurate.

I own and shoot both. They are truly outstanding semiautomatics. Select the one you feel best about: ergonomics, hand feel and fit, sight picture, pointing feel, carriage. You cannot go wrong with either.

Funny thing, the P-220 is probably the better handgun, but I enjoy my full-size, stainless, Kimber Custom Classic even more.

One vote for the 220.Got mine and sold all my colts. It fits me better never jams, not ammo fussy and is very accurate.

I went through the same agony trying to decide the same question about a year ago. I have always loved 1911s, and shot them in competition. A special custom Springfield is the most accurate 45 I own, and I shot a lot competition with it. It was my home defense gun too.

I was worried that my wife would have a hard time either racking the slide in condition 2 or remembering to release the safety in condition 1. Total reliability was another big concern for me. As much as I hated to admit it, with some HP defense loads, it just had some problems feeding and ANY feeding problems are too many for a defense gun.

I shot and bought a Sig 220 and made the leap. I had the Harrts recoil rod installed, trigger job, night sights, and Hogue grips. The gun points very naturally, has a long enough barrell, is totally reliable with all of the defense ammo I have tried. Is lighter and easier to carry than my 1911. Now, after much thought and trial, it sits in the top shelf as my defense gun, and usually gets the nod at the range too. Ow well, I guess times do change. Still have the feelings of nastalga though.

I have had two SIG 220s, currently don't have any. But I DO have three 1911s, including the Kimber Gold Match that is my carry gun. Can you guess what my reccomendation is?
:D

Art said it - whichever suits you best. I've always favored the ol' slabsides 1911, its balanc and weight seeem about right but that maybe just a matter of habit. lately started to become more friendly with my SIG P220 and we're getting along fine. Its not fussy at all about the ammunition (maybe a Kimber would be the same - the traditional 1911 could balk sometimes). Its fatter grip took a bit of getting used to... on the other hand I also get along fine with my Browning (FM built) HP 'Detective' and with my CZ 85 - fun to plink with 9mm's. But i digress - as a 'primary, right now the SIG 'ppears to be gaining. For What its Worth - Peter Knight
