SIG 220 9mm !

Ok what is the story with this gun. How does it compare with the SIG 210 or G19 lets say. I found one in mint condition with spare 8 rnd mag and Box for $400. Is this a good deal for the gun.

I've never seen or shot one, but believe that its scarcity makes it a collectors item. Personally, I believe that for concealed carry, a 225 makes far more sense. The 225 is far more size efficient, just as accurate, and fits the hand better. From all the reports I've heard, most 220s are consistantly more accurate than the Glock. 210 Supposed to be top of the line bar none. But for target shooting, a 220 should do.

Did you know that the common caliber that it was made for is 45ACP? It can also be found, albeit difficult in 38 super. 9mm Was the rarest caliber for the 220. It is oversized by far for the little 9mm, but if you want it for collection purposes, rather than a user, I think its worth it .

I thought the SIG P220 was a .45? I think NIB blue ones go for about $600.

Check the gun to see if the side (on the frame) is marked PWArms. It should be in white lettering, on the left side of the frame (as you hold the gun) above the trigger area. If it is, the gun is a Sig220A that was originally chambered in .38super for the european market. The gun was imported by PWArms of WA and converted to 9mm. These guns are not that rare, and I can usually get one for about $445 NIB. The gun should have the american style magazine release.

If it doesn't have these markings, and has a european magazine release (heel of the grip) then it is an original made 9mm and has a little more value and is a little rarer in the U.S. This model is more desirable as a collector.

The 220 9mm is as accurate as a stock Sig 226, but doesn't compare to a Sig 210 (alteast it didn't compare to my 210). I owned one, and sold it cause the 226 is a better gun (in my opinion). Also, I wasn't wild about the fact that the gun was rechambered to 9mm.

Hope this helps.

Greetings Chaho, I would not want any brand
of auto loader that has been re-chambered;
be it Sig, H&K, Beretta, Smith & Wesson,
Colt or what ever? If that firearm is an
original Sig production in 9m/m; you may
want to jump on it! The 220 is a highly
accurate firearm, as is the P226. I own
both; plus two more (P228, P229) and I
wouldn't trade or sell any of them.

thanks equalizer and sigarms, I will check on the gun as tomorow . I did check the slide to fram fit which was ok and checked the barrel for any pitting and fit. So far everything is mint %99.

i own one (a PWA P220A 9mm) and it is a superb handgun! it surprised me when i shot it for the first time. hardly any recoil and very very accurate. accuracy is just as good as my P228, but not as accurate as my P210. for accuracy, the P220 will put a huge smile on ur face. :D

$400 is almost exactly what i paid for mine. it is a STEAL of a deal!!! this gun would be worth it for $2-300 more...honestly!

as for having a rechambered handgun, i'm not sure if this is the case for the PWA P220As. even if it is, this is a superb firearm.
original P220s were chambered in 9mm, not .45ACP. the .38SUPER was created for countries that disallow citizens from owning military calibers. the Swiss and Japanese defence forces ordered the P220 in 9mm originally.

the P220A was the last SIG i needed to finish off my SIG collection. well worth it for that price and u'll love shooting it. u don't have to worry about buying preban hicap mags either. the P220A grip feels more confortable than the P226 to me. the P228 feels the best of all my SIGs.

Mik,

A bunch of us on SIG-L found out about these guns being rechambered after these guns began to appear on the US market. We contacted PWA and SIGARMS, both comfirmed that they were originally chambered for .38super. The back of the factory manual that came with my gun even states that the 220A isn't available in 9mm. As I recall, the 220B? was. Also, my mags were stamped .38super (on the floorplate) then stamped 9mm halfway over the 38stamping. They are a good gun but I'd prefer a european 220 9mm or a 226 /228 than one of these.

To each his own

John

John,

the only reason i bought it was i can't find a P220A in 9mm ANYWHERE. it is a good gun, and i have run about 500 rounds through it without a hiccup. it really is quite accurate. it's fairly new to my safes, but i'm sure it will work just fine. wish i could find a european P220B 9mm, but for now, this P220A is a keeper. :D

MIK, there is a local dealer in my area that has a european 220B with the heel mag release on it. However the gun is in poor condition on surface examination. The first thing I noticed was that a grip screw was missin on both sides of the grip. The shop's name is Shooters of Columbus and is located in Columbus GA. Area code is 706. Hope this helps.

Walk softly and carry a big stick (Yeah I know I stole it)

Being myself more a .38 Super fan than a 9mm fan, the rechambering seems a waste to me. OTOH, I can't blame the importer for going with the market.

Mik-

I traded a Euro. 220 9mm w/ heel mag release,box, papers,mags...etc. for HKP7M8. It was 99% when I traded it.
I would bet that this place still has it because they are not known for handgun sells( I was surprised they had a P7)but rather for there hunting rifles and shotguns.
If you want i can give you the phone #.

the scoup is that this gun is original with the mag release on the bottom and I am going to pick it up tonight for $400 whoo hoo. Guys i will let you know how it shoots. Especialy compaired to my sig 210 and comp. G19. Any idea on what this baby fancies.

The pistol we call the SIG P220 was originally developed by SIG for the Swiss army to replace the SIG 210 as their service pistol. I believe it was offically adopted in 1975 SIG felt they had a winner in the basic design but found it very difficult to sell abroad becuse of the quaint Swss nuetrality laws. This led SIG to make an agreement with Sauer to produce pistols in Germany. The first pistols shipped to the United States were imported by Browning and marked "Brownibg BDA".

Chaho,

You mean you already have a 210 and Glock 19?!! You've got a great gun for every occasion. Sounds like you made a good choice w/that 220. If you don't mind, give us a little review when you put a few boxes of ammo through it.

thanks guys...finances won't allow me to buy another firearm at present. i'm very very happy with my P220A 9mm and i prefer the american mag release.

Ok just got back from the range and put 150 rnds through the Sig 220. I used fiocchi 115g FMJ, Gecco 115g FMJ, WIN clean 115g. Distance was 25 feet, slow fire, 9 rounds each clip. No misfires, jams, FTF, or PIPES OUT. I shot groups of 2" at about 1" to the left. And usually one or two rounds will slip way off. LET me tell you that it is no sig 210. And in no way shoots like my G19 with barsto and 3.25 trigger. I get 1 1/2" groupings dead center with both of my guns every shot every time. Well this IS my first time out using this gun and only used three different kinds of factory ammo. I will try this weekend Using WIN USA, FEDERAL, UMC. Any other suggestions. After that I will choose if I should keep this gun.
Thanks for listening.
