I shoot bobtails fairly well, esp the commander length ones.
It feels a bit more comfortable, like a revolver.

What's the nightmare? Sounds like good news until advised otherwise.
99.9% sure that the OP is referring to the Sig 1911 Nightmare. As in, the model's name is "Nightmare." :)

If you have ever taken apart a 1911 fully... THAT IS a nightmare :D I would start with a field strip and clean it up nice. If it performs great, awesome. If something doesn't feel right, I would bring it to a trusted 1911 pro friend (I have one, invaluable) or to a local gun shop to fully disassemble and inspect. There are a lot part in a 1911 and I have heard a lot of stories from gunsmiths of guys coming to them with a bag of parts saying "can you put this back together?"

Congrats on the new addition, I'm sure it will be really fun. One thing I do on a lot of used guns is to replace the recoil spring and to bring a few proven mags for the first range trip. Be sure to give it a quick wipe down and lube and then get her out shooting.

I'll bet. My last "nightmare" was a repair of a surplus CZ 82, turned out great, but never want to have that experience again. Have done lots of tuning time on Italian cap & ball revolvers. Hoping I never have to dissect one of my 1911s.

The Sig looks like a really nice piece, many of the clones like the Rugers and Remingtons I have shot are very nice, this one is no exception I'm sure.

watch out for the scratch!

Read up on the scratch you can get when taking a 1911 type apart. It is easy to prevent provided you are aware of it. Others can tell you the specifics.

That sig is a really nice handgun. Mine eats everything.

Congratulations, I'm sure you'll enjoy your nightmare (Nightmare by SIG). Clean, lubricate and shoot it. Some 1911's like to run a "wet" slide. Start on the wet side, wipe it down if it's too much.

After 70+ years of ignoring 1911's, I re-discovered them about three years ago, when a bought a SA RO in 9mm. When I decided I needed one in .45 ACP, I bought a SIG 1911 Target, followed the next day by a SIG 1911 MAXX. By then, I'd already picked up a DW Guardian and a STI Target Master, so I had a good feel for the 1911 platform. I felt comfortable with buying SIG because of good experience with their German made guns. The SIG 1911's never disappointed me. I recently sold them because my arthritic hands were getting beaten badly.

Shortly after purchasing the SIG 1911's, I purchased several H&K pistols in .45 ACP. Really enjoyed the H&K's but I was always able to shoot the SIG's better. Probably the softest shooting .45 ACP pistol, I ever fired, was the H&K Mark 23, followed by the SIG 1911's.

I've owned a bunch of SIG's, including a great p210 and three X-Series guns. I expected good triggers in the SIG 1911's; and, they were great without any work done to them. Lots of folks are critical of US made SIG's. I've always thought their Swiss made guns were superlative, with the German made ones a really close second. My US made SIG's (five) are almost as good as the German made ones. Certainly as good, performance wise; almost as good looking machined finish.

One way to help avoid marking your 1911 with a scratch tattoo is to cut a plastic-coated playing card to shape and slip it under the slide-release/disassembly lever before pushing it "home".

Maybe it's me but I find detail stripping a 1911 to be very easy and direct with no surprises or handstands while putting it back together. There are a lot of You Tube videos and animations showing how it is done. It is amazingly simple and fun. You also get to learn how the pistol works in such a simple way.

Sig nightmare

Ya I just bought this gun used and it has an idiot scratch on it finally took it to the range alsome gun no problems with it I love it

Look up the stickie in the 1911 forum made by "Logman", it is the best answer and I do that to all my 1911's. No more need for tiny screwdrivers or credit cards or any of that stuff, just snap it straight in.

Log is an amazing pistolsmith.
