Sierra Sig Sauer V-Crown 124gr 9mm

So I have seen a lot of the tests using the new V-Crown ammo and how bad they have failed in the denim tests.

Well on Wednesday my package came in and I loaded some up. I had a single cartridge that was factory loaded, so I utilized the powder and overall length of the factory fodder.

I used a glock 19 and 17, 2 rounds each of handloads, clear ballistic gelatin and 4 layers of 14oz denim.

I won't disclose the load details, but looking at the powder and the data, I used BE-86 as it was what was in the factory Sig round, and chronograph results tracked exactly the same.

Any who, the bullets expanded well, no over penetrators, and stopped within the 16 inch block.

The glock 19 is on top and the 17 on the bottom.

I'll try and get a box of the factory stuff and post an update on the performance of those as well.

The 19 denim bullet penetrated to 15.25 inches, both the bare gel bullets penetrated to 12.5 inches and the 17 denim round penetrated 14 inches.

Thanks. I had not heard of denim problems, but imo, claiming that denim stopped that wide open flat dish from expanding sounds utterly ridiculous. Out of any hp rounds out there, that one has one of the best designs to be forgiving of clogs, still expanding fully and giving optimal penetration. The reason hollow points were unreliable as that they were narrow and deep and had to be blown out with plastic matter, and drywall and clothing are not plastic. Good on jelly worked with deep and narrow, but plugged it, a wider opening, or even flat soft point won't clog.

I'm glad to see specimens posted by an impartial tester. I set both of my autos up with them for carry, I have others for my revolvers now, but will soon s with to them.
Lets not forget that every time I see them they are very reasonably priced.

I feel that they are perfect. Being perfect doesn't mean that the are the best, there are other "perfect"rounds. This fulfills all expectations.

It seems some of the issues regarding denim have been through short barreled pistols. I.e. the Sig 938.

I have to say that having them in hand, it would be harder to plug up that cavity then some other bullet types.

I'll get around to updating the original post with expansion results. I apologize as I was off site and didn't have my calipers.

The other issue shown in tnoutdoors9 video of the bare gel shot only penetrating 7" of gel, did not rear its ugly head in my tests.

With sierra's reputation on the line as the maker of those bullets, in a market where they are going up against some tried and true designs, I doubted that they would release a sub par bullet. And in my tests, they passed with flying colors.
