Sierra hpbt

I had a box of 140 gr Sierra HPBT for a 270. Don't remember why I bought them, but I had them for years. Dad passed away, left me his Ruger Ultralight. I loaded up some midrange powder charge loads with those bullets and shot clover leaf groups. Who knew? A favorite nephew begged me for the rifle, so I gave it to him, with the hand loads, and he sends pictures of all the big bucks he kills. He speaks highly of the bullet's performance.

I have come to think that the Sierra HPBT hunting bullets are a great bullet that nobody talks about. Even though it's a hollow point, the bullet seems to be pretty tough.

Sierra 165 Grain HPBT were the first bullets I used for deer when the only rifle I had was a Model 70 30.06. I later used some SPBT and had success with both bullet styles.

Yes i been interested in them nownfor a bit sierra says they are tougher than their gamekings...will try soon

I have some in 140gr, and 160gr in 7mm.

Tried some of the 160gr. at the range in my 7mm-08, for giggles...
Using Reloder 19 got some of the best groups I've ever shot.

Have not tried them on game as of yet, but would very much like to..

They shot very, very well in several .243 rifles I used them in. My most recent .243, a Savage, they shoot .4 to .6 five shot groups at 100yds on a consistent basis. I've shot hundreds of woodchucks with them over the years and found them to be a very good bullet for that purpose.

165 grn HPBT-3006

My model 700 loves these bullets over a near max load of IMR 4350.
Haven't taken any game as of yet with that bullet, but the precision is stellar for sure. I picked up 3 boxes from a fella for 25 bucks, and it didn't take long at all to fall in love with its consistancy.

It's a pretty long bullet with a long bearing surface. My 25-06 has a 1:10 twist and handles them nicely. I will pick up more in the not too distant future. Funny thing though, my rifle did not like the Sierra 117 grain bullet of similar design.

My Ruger 77 MKII has a 1:10 twist...

Velocity shouldn't be too bad. Hodgdon Hybrid 100 is showing good velocities.

Cranking out 75gr. Sierra HP varmint at almost 3600FPS.

100gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip at 3170FPS.

Do keep records of lot numbers of bullets and other components. Had groups open to 3 inches just by opening a new box of bullets, different lot number. Didn't keep records then, do now.

I have shoot them in 3 different calibers and they shoot good. about 1 in at 100 yards in all of my Savages

I use #1390 (55gr HPBT Gameking) in my .223 bolt gun. Only bullet I run through it. I tried several different brands and types, and my gun shot this round the best. My daughter used the round on a deer a few years ago at about 60 yards. Good clean shot through the boiler room. No recovered bullet, so it retained some weight. With my load, I'm only running it at about 2700 FPS.

I have used the HPBT GK in 30 cal (both 308 and 30-06), but I couldn't get the accuracy I wanted from them in that caliber, so I went to Sierra's soft point in that caliber.
