I've got a Mossberg 590 that needs more accessories to dress itself up. Does anyone know where I can find a 5-6 round capacity sidesaddle that requires NO gunsmithing?
I might be wrong, but I thought that sidesaddles were bad idea for the mossbergs with their aluminum receivers. With recoil the screw on type saddles either got stripped or they moved around bit by bit and caused their holes to become elongated. Have you thought bout a stock shell holder? Mine fits 5 shells and is cheap.
I also read some reviews on the damage to the receiver. So I went with a speed feed stock instead. The stock only holds four 3” shells but is a solid part of the gun, and feels like it belongs there.
I have a 590A1 and I haven't had any problems with the sidesaddle damaging the receiver. The holes where the sidesaddle portion mount to the plate are a little stretched out, though.
I use a TacStar sidesaddle on a Mossberg, and one on a Winchester. I have had no problems with screws stripping or holes elongating. Brownells, Midway, and others sell them. You can also find them on ebay for a couple of bucks less.
A Blackhawk 5-round butt cuff. Looks nice and tacticool, plus you don't have to worry about it screwing with the reliability of the gun. (I had a Sidesaddle on my 500A and wasn't comfortable with the "tighten the screws so it doesn't fall off, but not so tight that the gun jams" part.)
Mesa Tactical makes some nice side saddles and theres another company who's going to be making side saddles similiar to Mesa's in different colors like OD etc.. Specter gear makes nice buttstock shell holders or you can get a Allen Brand at Wallmart for like 3 or 4 bucks.
