Sidearm Ideas?

Suppose you have a primary gun (whatever it may be) and you're wanting a sidearm. A handgun seems to be an ideal sidearm, but because of the laws in your state or nation, you cannot have one. So what would you suggest for a non-handgun sidearm?

Some guns I can think of so far are:

Hi Point carbine in 9mm, 40 s&w, 45acp

Keltec carbine in the same caliber

Beretta carbine in the same calibers

MAC carbine (carbine as in having a stock, AR-15 style fore grip, 16 inch barrel)

AR-15 chambered for pistol cartridges

Rossi Circuit Judge, only holds 5 shots but are light, small, and dependable. I'd use the .45/.410 version. If it's too long of a gun for you, put a pistol grip on it. Another great option would be an AK47 rifle without a stock.
However, I have no idea why anyone would want to walk around with 2 long guns. Seems like a dumb idea to me. I'd rather spend the money and get a better rifle or shotgun, whichever you prefer.

Since handguns are seemingly not allowed in your area, I would focus on your primary weapon (rifle?) and not worry much about it. Other than being of a smaller size/weight for manuevering and carry, a handgun, doesn't offer any advantages over a rifle. Hauling around two rifles other than for a range trip isn't really practical.

Carry a good fighting knife or less lethal weapon (taser, pepper spray, baton, etc) because if they are too close to shoot with a rifle, then they are with striking distance.

Best of luck. Where are you from?

I'd say have an AR 15 as your primary and then an pistol calibre AR 15 as your side arm, that way when the terrorists come into your house they're going to run away scared at the sight of you!

You also might want to consider that in some games you can carry to primary weapons and a side arm, so say you have a AR 15, a sniper rifle and a sawn off shot gun as your secondary then this opens allows you to be ready for almost any circumstance.

Those kids will regret the day they ever stand on your lawn!

I'm from Texas. Great state for gun ownership, but unfortunately, you can't purchase a handgun until you're 21 (I think it's federal law). I'm only 19.

Actually it's perfectly legal for you to purchase a handgun from a private party, just not from a FFL holder. Now getting ammo for it might be a problem.

Why you feel you need a side arm? 90% of grunts in Iraq/Afghanistan don't have one. If I had the option I wouldnt want one.... One more thing to keep track of and Id rather have the space on my kit for more primary weapon ammo. If troops in combat don't need one I think you can do without one.

If you REALLY feel the need to carry a second firearm without it being a handgun, get a Keltec folding rifle/carbine, and stash it in the backpack you're wearing.

The Kel-Tect Sub-2000 is probably the easiest one to haul around and likely wins the thread... but we can't have this thread without THE carbine that was designed and issued to serve in the role of a sidearm from the very beginning: The U.S. GI M1 Carbine.

If there is a lighter, handier, better feeling little arm that's as easy to manipulate, carry and shoot with as much bark as the M1 Carbine, I don't know what it is.

I think this is hard to answer without knowing a little about the primary weapon.
I believe quite a few people lugging slow firing long range primary weapons(bolt rifles mostly) have made the choice to additionally carry a carbine, although usually an SBR.
If you are talking about an assault rifle or even automatic rifle(such as an M14 or AR-10), I agree carrying a carbine would not be the choice I would make.
If I did I would choose one that shot the same ammo, especially if what would be an SBR in the US is Legal wherever this scenario takes place. Carrying an AK and an AK carbine would be pretty odd IMO though. Actually, it makes no sense at all unless you can have an SBR. I wouldn't do it.
If you are carrying a bolt gun or scoped semi then the pistol carbine makes a little more sense. What I suggest would depend on where this is and what is available. Outside the US you can usually buy nice full auto toys in open markets that we just don't have access to in the US.

Ideally it would be something that fired the same caliber as my main weapon. Not really plausible though if you're using a bolt gun as primary. If I had- say, a .30-06 primary weapon an underfolder AK would be an ok sidearm. No pistol classification and you can actually have a stock for close in fast work. I think that would be a pretty good choice if your main arm was more of a precision rifle (heavy, scoped, etc.)

Blv TX just lost in court over efforts to lower the purchase age to 18 or 19, the argument being they can serve in the military and carry weapons but can't purchase legally here ... I have a Hi-Point 9mm carbine, by the way, and I love it ... not the classiest, but function is excellent and it's accurate enough for my purposes ...
