I'm still working on that sporterized M1917, and now I have another question...
My delimma is that I have two options available for the scope mounts, a two-piece base (made by Weaver) and a side mount scope from Williams (model SM70). Unfortunately, I couldn't find any 1-piece bases.
What's the best option for mounting a scope on my .30-06 and why?
Clearance shouldn't be a problem for either - the cartridges eject almost completely to the right. As far as cost goes, the Weaver bases (2x#11 bases) cost about $10, the side mount costs about $65...
